Up to 1000 km range with giant battery

The most important and spectacular value is the battery capacity and range: As with the ET 7, NIO does a variant with a whopping 150 kWh for the middle class. The largest batteries available today are in Mercedes EQS and BMW IX – both are below 110 kWh. The range according to the Chinese standard is said to be over 1000 kilometers.

Whether these numbers become more in reality than an advertising promise will show. Drive is a Tesla copy

When driving, Nio copies the efficient Tesla technology as far as possible. A permanent magnetic engine with 210 kW (286 hp) works on the rear axle, on the front axle there is a powerful asynchronous machine with 150 kW (204 hp). As with Tesla, the power electronics are designed in efficient SIC technology. With the total output of 490 hp, the car should accelerate in 4.3 seconds to 100 km/h. NIO did not indicate a top speed during the presentation – it is also irrelevant in China – but after the SUV it may be 6 200 km/h, the ET 5 is also not to be expected.
The performance is therefore very precisely at the level of the Model 3 Long Range. Variants were not presented. A pure rear-wheel drive version is apparently not intended.

Larger in every dimension than the Model 3

In the case of dimensions, the ET 5 exceeds Model 3 in all dimensions: with 4.79 x 1.96 x 1.50 meters, it is ten centimeters longer, nine centimeters wider and six centimeters higher than the American competitor.     I’m commuter, just tour 510km on the A9 from Bavaria towards Berlin. 6.January mornings, … Only a longer construction site 9km behind Munich. Tour in 4 hours. 15 minutes done, no tank break is necessary. Give me an electric car with which I can drive the same way, for the price of a commercially available compact car and then I could make friends with e-mobility. The reality looks like this, ID3 entry, 330km WLTP range, around € 32000 without a premium, brings realistic 170km range, longer travel time and three load breaks a 30 minutes. So this will be nothing with e-mobility and over € 100,000 for 600km+ range Ala Mercedes EQS, sorry, my budget is not enough for that!

    They are more part of the problem. The solution is the integration into the natural carbon cycle with CO2+water+sun produced hydrocarbons. This has been extremely successful in nature for a billion years, would solve our energy problems and avoid the scrapping of infrastructure for thousands of billion euros. Because after the scrapping, new infrastructure must be built with new resources and new environmental problems. But of course this promotes the ROI of certain companies and serves ideologies.

    Amazing when you compare the hardware equipment NIO with Tesla. Some only rely on the camera that has been shown to have a high source of error in the recording. And that is exactly what should be the market and technology leader ? If the solution with lidar, radar, ultrasonic sensorism and cameras appear to me much more innovative and failure. But well, it will be so difficult for Nio to gain a foothold here. At some point, e-cars should be manufactured and sold at Berlin, you don’t hear anything anymore……

    However, they should only be leased. Because who would like to exchange their new battery when buying a new car for a new car where you don’t know how old he is. And with battery leasing, the remaining car would no longer be expensive. The car dealerships don’t want that because of profit margins. And the sale would also be problematic. One would have to sell the leasing contract. Who wants to take over a contract? Nobody does with cell phones. But that too is speculation. You can achieve a lot with appropriate laws. If there are no loopholes. The car dealerships would also have to play along and offer corresponding different variants. All of this takes a lot of time. Time you don’t want. The time you need could be the death of this technique. What is unthinkable for us and will never happen.
