- Are the advance laurels deserved?
- Painful shoulder and e-foot while driving
- Summary of this short test
Striking is this new edgy form of the first electric car from Hyundai on the 800V platform E-GMP already, you have to admit that. But that alone can not make this hype in the press and especially with the Youtube testers. Now the car is really as good as you want to make us or is just a well-made advertising campaign with the goal of defrecting weaknesses behind all the brimborium?
Just before it goes: The charging curve is galactic and so stable that you can easily create a ruler if you print it. At the HPC 150 KW at Maxsolar / Egis in Traunstein almost continuous 120kW from 20 to just under 80% SOC – this no one creates, even the not very weak competition in this price range does not. But any benefits must have the 800V technique yes and the topic has been tested by almost every other tester with bright eyes.
Are the advance laurels deserved?
This is not possible in this short test, but we wanted to know how everyday use of the new Ioniq 5 is really suitable for everyday use and whether he deserves the advance laurels or you would rather invest in the competition. Namely, the technical data of a vehicle does not see the technical data of a vehicle through the pink glasses, but also pay attention to, sidelines’, which do not notice a burner driver immediately.
The “new” is actually not as small as he seems at first glance, but pretty spacious and if you see the dimensions explains this impression of itself. The Ioniq 5 is wider than the Ford Mustang Mach-E, has a longer wheelbase than the blessed Audi e-tron (remember, this builds on the long version of the Q5 China) and has, though “only” a tail engine and one almost equal battery as the model 3 LR Dual Motor has installed, a curtain of curtain of almost 300 kg. And what is not to be forgotten: This PSM engine makes good round 170 hp, which come pretty much at the starting point.
Hyundai gives a range of about 384 km in this configuration (was adapted to RS with Tester / Hyundai by editors), which one has shown experienced according to experiences only the rich bass of the burning gums. Real WLTP ranges, D.H. Really comprehensible overall trails, as many influences such as temperature, driving habits, traffic situation etc.., that you can roughly calculate just under 20% of the information. Then we are reached at just under 310 km range, which are actually feasible – except you drive into the mountains with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, because then the little one must come pretty well to bring the weight up. Who does not believe it, should be careful when driving on the beautiful little instantaneous consumption beam in the left display, which lets themselves at 60 kWh / 100 km, D.H. go there on the stop, because the scale does not work.
But we already know this behavior from Ford Mustang Mach E, which is also not a special Alpine road vehicle, but this greater consumption through a lightning powerful one-pedal recuperation downhill. Unfortunately, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is not that way, because its version of One-Pedal a la Tesla or BMW i3 named i-pedal works in the shallow, but if it becomes steep, it requires the driver’s braked braking to not too fast will.
From the other recuperation stages, which you still have to choose from the Ioniq 5, I do not want to talk, because this serves more of the accuracy of an ex-cellar automatic driver on an e-car latest generation and is in my eyes actually only a concession to the past. I know that I now train myself the Missmess of some German E-motorists who see more sense in the gliding to the reach of the range than in the pure push of the one-pedal driving. But sliding is not saving, but only the centrifugal force is used, but which recapproaches during braking. Although you have a brake recuperation, which only uses so briefly and nothing to do with saving in the form of a lot of electricity at speed reduction. So much, but now again to the everyday driving with an electric car from South Korea, which calls a lot to sensitive and brachially inserting lane support assistant. And its huge track width to the challenge in narrow streets.
Painful shoulder and e-foot while driving
But not only that – I have never risen from a car after a test with a painful shoulder and gas foot. I know the smooth pedal differently and the security wizard at competition such as Z.B. Ford Mustang are cheerful handzahmer. But not enough, because this Zipperlein starts from the front with every restart and becomes patience. Again a point that is not mentioned in the press or only half-hearted. Since I’m just wondering how to easily overlook such an important point, as well as the increasing consumption of the small engine in the mountains,. Of course, the vouching packet behavior will improve with a stronger version, but should it be considered that he will be even heavier.
It is the same as the information on a magnificent trailer load of 1600 kg – 400 kg more than VW ID.4 and Audi Q4 E-Tron, which are both based on the new MEB platform of VW. Sounds very promising, just what is not mentioned is the fact that a trailer, which is pulled by a normal CW-optimized vehicle, is increased the consumption of the same by up to the double value. That would be with just 20kWh / 100km without saying 40 kWh with pendant and there it will be quite tight with the big battery to get at least 150km far.
Something we still noticed at this short test, which does not quite understand: The future E cars have all installed a heat pump for saving. As we found in different vehicles, this also works very well and you almost not notice this additional aggregate. Only why does the air conditioning (heat pump) turn off the Hyundai Ioniq 5 up to 16% of consumption if it is not even on automatic? Of course, that sums up, if you have everything together and we will come in consumption values that are used to be used by far larger vehicles like Audi E-Tron, Tesla Model X or Mercedes EQC.
The next question also meets me immediately, why in this new vehicle does not use the low center of gravity, due to the big battery, and put it on stilts, so to speak? 20 inch tires with a non-adaptive suspension (in contrast to the VW ID.4) – There are fluctuations in the curve range preprogrammed. In the city at low speeds, this will not be so attracted, but overhanging curves in the for alpa area or serpentines should rather drive slower.
Summary of this short test
The hype, which is made around this vehicle, is absolutely incomprehensible, because it is certainly not an efficiency. What helps me the whole fast shop, if the consumption is not up to date and you do not reinhose the loss in the recuperation? Certainly we did not find any finesse in the test, but the pretty nested menu in the display also has its share. Then the fast Navi is always praised, only what helps me the speed when I look into MiceKino. Luckily there is the possibility to use the mobile phone and Google Maps should solve the problem.
Speaking of display, and in front of the steering wheel: It is very commendable that one learns the most important data in a very appealing halfpipe graphic, only one should be seen. Very much is so unfavorably covered by the bottom of the sports steering wheel below, that you have to devote yourself from and too pretty much to recognize something. I’ll be that’s because the South Koreans are smaller than we are Central Europeans and it is coordinated. The circumstance is also the circumstance when you want to drive through sports mode into normal mode. This is just in one direction – Sport follows Eco and that creates a noticeable jerk in the car that can not be good in the long run.
However, Hyundai is the only manufacturer I know who even offer trailers for his vehicles. That should please the German again, because somehow the vehicle is very German: Gene from Tacal, but also his thirst, trailer hitch with 1600 kg, very suitable for bringing the garden waste on Saturday to the recycling center and space for the small weekend trip en mass. Only sparingly the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is certainly not. And that can make the competition much better. Also those from Wolfsburg.

I do not know if I should laugh or cry. This “test” is really abstrus, such I actually have not read yet.
Critical reviews I find great! But please use ZDF numbers, data, facts! What I read here are allegations. The car consumes a lot in the mountains (oh what? Another about not??) And oh miracle when a trailer is drawn, then – what should be the alternative? Not to allow trailer load? Consumption is unnamed. Back! – how high is he actually and was measured in the Alps? Not specified! Only one picture of the display – 18.4 kW / h are there at a distance from 19.8 km. Very meaningful and determined on the basis of comprehensible criteria. Convinced…. Definitely not. And clear, the “tester” gets pain in the shoulder area – my tip: simply get out unpaved, could help.
The “car newspaper” renowned for more than 50 years has tested the IoniQ 5 against Audi Q4etron and BMW IX3 in the current test and is significantly higher in the ranking than the Audi and BMW tested here as the previously tested VW ID4 GTX or Skoda Enyaq tested here 80 ..

This “test” here is absolutely not serious to take ..
