Akasol AG has opened its Gigafactory 1, Europe‘s currently largest factory for commercial vehicle battery systems, with more than 160 guests solemnly open. According to the company “state-of-the-art factory”, the first expansion stage has a production capacity of up to 1 gWh, which should be successively expanded to 2.5 gWh by the end of 2022. Production in the new Akasol Gigafactory 1 includes worldwide leading lithium-ion battery systems for commercial vehicles on highly automated and fully crosslinked production lines with an annual production capacity of 1 GWh in the first expansion stage. With the commissioning of further production lines, production capacity will increase up to 2.5 GWh in the coming year and can be extended to up to 5 GWh depending on customer requirements. The Akasol campus includes more than 20.000 Square meter area in the southwest Darmstadt in a convenient location to the Federal Highway A5 and the Turnstile Frankfurt am Main. In the 15.000 square meters of two-storey production, assembly and logistics halls is also a test and validation center for testing cells, modules and systems and ensuring the highest quality standards, as akasol in a recent communication. A 600 kWp solar system feeds the production facility and office space as well as one of the largest charging column parks for electric cars in Hesse with more than 60 charging columns.
