Almost at the same time with Mercedes-Benz, the 14 car brands comprehensive Stellantis Group has announced the signing of a joint development agreement Factorial Energy to promote Factorial’s solid-state battery technology. The agreement includes, as at Mercedes-Benz, also a strategic investment of Stellantis.
“Our investment in factorial and other recognized battery partners increases speed and agility that we need to provide cutting-edge technology for our electric vehicle portfolio,” says Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “Initiatives like these will enable a faster market launch and a cheaper transition to solid state technology.”
Factorial has developed its solid-state technology to deal with the crucial challenges that are still wider acceptance of electric vehicles in the way: reach and security. The Factorial developments are based on Festorial Electrolyte System Technology, which uses a proprietary solid electrolyte material. This enables safe and reliable cell power with high voltage and high capacitance electrodes and was scaled in 40 AH cells operating at room temperature. It is safer than the conventional lithium-ion technology, increases the range and can be used immediately for easy integration into the existing infrastructure for the production of lithium-ion batteries.
“It’s a great honor to work with Stellantis, a leading global mobility provider to which some of the world’s most famous automobile marks,” says Siyu Huang, co-founder and CEO of Factorial Energy. “For us, the unique opportunity is to promote the introduction of our clean, efficient and secure solid state battery technology on the mass market.”
Stellantis announced the goal of the Ev Day in July 2021 to bring the first competitive solid state battery technology to the market by 2026. With the new cooperation, this goal seems a lot more tangible.
