Altmaier has plans for German-Polish battery alliance-alliance

Like world.has learned, Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) will bring the topic of a common German-Polish battery alliance on the table during his visit to Warsaw coming week. Altmaier wants to solve the interest in a common investment in the production of battery cells for electric cars.

In Warsaw itself our Federal Minister of Economics meet several government members, including Jadwiga Emilewicz, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology, and Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski. Afterwards we go to the Netherlands for him.

The aim is that the German carmakers occupy a leading position in the supply of electric vehicles and Germany will be in the worldwide comparison of battery cars. Stand Today, however, little interest in a major industrial production of cells from the manufacturer is recorded.

As is known, the German government has been trying to make a long time for battery cell production in its own country. Already in April Altmaier gave to understand that the Federal Government is ready to support the manufacturers of electric vehicles batteries. On an industry event, Altmaier gave to understand that the production of batteries for electric cars is not necessarily due to the car manufacturers. Nonetheless, however, the future production of battery cells must be guaranteed. The German government would support that.

Already in January 2017, we had reported that the plant builders Thyssen-Krupp, M + W and manz merge with cell processing Litarion, Battery Montage Center and Streetscooter to a “germ cell” to advance the attempt of battery cell production in Germany. So far, however, there is no positive feedback here.

If no own, German battery factory gets Germany by Catl at least one battery production. At the beginning of July 2018, Catl has decided for Erfurt, Thuringia as the location of the European plant. The production facility will be designed for a capacity of 14 GWh per year and give the region 600 new jobs. Start of construction should be early 2019.
