AMG electric cars shortly before the start of series production-electric

AMG, the performance offshoot of Mercedes, is already developing vehicles with purely battery-electric drives. At present, however, the individualized and performance-enhanced AMG models are still being created on the basis of future Mercedes-EQ electric cars – similar to how a Mercedes-AMG E-Class is based on a Mercedes-Benz model today, the so-called AMG derivative strategy.

The first battery-electric AMG models are therefore based on the electro-exclusive Mercedes EQ architecture. The vehicles are extensively redeveloped in Affalterbach brand-specifically in the areas of technology (drive, chassis, brakes, sound), exterior design, interior design as well as standard equipment and options. They are ambassadors of a new era in the performance segment of the 43 and 53 AMG models, for target groups that place great value on innovative electromobility but do not want to do without sportiness and agile driving dynamics. The market launch is scheduled to begin later this year, according to Mercedes in a recent announcement. However, the manufacturer did not say which model it is.

The exterior design picks up on AMG-characteristic elements and wants to carry them over to the all-electric age. These include the specific radiator grille with vertical fins, the redesigned front apron, the side skirts, the unique rear end with spoiler lip and diffuser, and AMG wheels in Aero or Heritage design.

The interior also gets a special sporty touch, for example through exclusive AMG seats with individual graphics, AMG-specific functions and displays for the MBUX displays or the AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated buttons and two round AMG steering wheel buttons. Numerous AMG options reinforce the dynamic look on request.

Performance on par with a 4-litre V8 biturbo engine

The new performance models are launched with two independent, permanently excited synchronous machines and fully variable all-wheel drive with modular torque distribution. The provisional performance values of the test vehicles are already very promising: the combination of front and rear engines means that overall performance can be achieved at the level of the most powerful Mercedes-AMG Performance models with the current 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine. This also applies to the sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h, which, depending on performance and vehicle, is completed in well under four seconds and whose linear acceleration is a particular pleasure. The electric motors rotate up to max. 18.000/min and enable a top speed of up to 250 km/h.

The 400 volt lithium-ion battery receives its own line set, which is adapted to the higher performance of the AMG derivatives. The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension is AMG-specifically tuned for optimized longitudinal and lateral dynamics. Added to this is the electro-exclusive AMG i-Booster additional function, which harmoniously combines electric recuperation and hydraulic braking when decelerating.

And of course, according to Mercedes in its announcement, the typical AMG sound is also part of it. For example, with additional hardware (loudspeakers, shaker, sound generator) and the newly composed, authentic “AMG Sound Experience”, Mercedes-AMG is also driving into the future in a highly emotional way.
