Whylot is a company-based company in the French Region, which has developed a unique technology in the future-oriented area of innovative electric motors. Already in June 2021, the Renault Group had signed a partnership with Whylot to develop an innovative axial flow electric motor for motor vehicles and industrialize on a large scale. This technology is used for electrified and electric drive strands to reduce costs, especially in hybrid drives while reducing the CO2 emission of 2.5 g / km to WLTP standard for cars of segments B and C. Accordingly, the Renault Group will be the first manufacturer who produces an axial current electric motor on a large scale from 2025.
Whylot
Disc-shaped and particularly powerful
Axial flow electric motors are previously rarely used in the automatic radial flow motors in the car industry, because the production is more expensive. Ultimately, it is a special design of permanently excited synchronous machines (PSM), which offer superior torque and power densities – especially for applications with a short axial installation space. Despite this technical advantage, the technology has not received a recovery in recent years because new and improved manufacturing types have been developed. And those should be found in the future in models of the Renault Group ..
“We are pleased to further expand our cooperation with Whylot, a promising start-up company that has specialized in the conception and development of high-tech electric motors. This partnership, combined with a capital contribution to the company, is another proof of our commitment to our French roots and industrial anchoring the Renault Group in France with the aim of producing popular, affordable and profitable electric cars and electrified vehicles, “said Philippe Brunet, Director of Powertrain and Electric Vehicles, Alliance. This equity is to enable the Renault Group and Whylot to position themselves in the coming years as a leader in the development and industrialization of innovative and affordable electric motors and to support the very strong growth of the market for electric vehicles in France and Europe.
