The registration statistics of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) for the first six months of 2021 are here. Like in the first quarter and in the first five months of the year the VW e-Up leads the statistics. The small car has not been configurable since the end of 2020, but in June alone it was registered almost 2,800 times. Allegedly, VW is processing old orders that are apparently only now being delivered.

Model 3 now landed in second place. As usual, Tesla stepped up the gas again with deliveries at the end of the quarter, pushing the VW ID.3 to third place. The Kona holds its fourth place, while the electric fortwo slips down a place and thus allows the Renault Zoe to advance. The VW ID.4, which landed in ninth place in the first five months, moved up significantly to seventh place. No fewer than 1,710 new electric SUVs were registered in June. As a result, the BMW i3 and Opel Corsa-e each slid one step lower.

Here are all ten bestsellers. We have also extrapolated the registration figures for the first six months for the full year so that you can better compare with the figures for 2020:

In the KBA statistics for 2020 the Renault Zoe was still number one with just over 30,000 copies sold. The small car has now slipped to sixth place. In second place in 2020 was the VW e-Golf, which is no longer available, followed in third place by the Tesla Model 3, which was already third at the time.

A total of exactly 148,716 electric cars were registered for the first time in the first half of 2021. That is around 11 percent of the total new registrations (1,390,889 cars) – in the previous year this electric quota was still below 7 percent.

If the electric car market continues to boom, 300,000 electric cars could be sold for the full year. That would be an increase of more than 50 percent compared to 2020. Because last year only around 194,000 new electric cars were registered.
