Elon Musk disagrees with the US President …
US President Joe Biden toured GMC's Factory ZERO EV facility in Detroit yesterday to mark its opening and even had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a GMC Hummer EV To put pick-up.
Of course, he wasn't just there to look at the plant and the huge car that will soon be rolling off the assembly line.
He also addressed GM executives, UAW union leaders, factory workers and local authorities. He spoke about the White House Infrastructure Act to Combat Climate Change, which was signed this week, and the automaker's push towards electrification.
This is where things got a little strange, as the president grossly exaggerated GM's (and Detroit's) credit for promoting electrification.
"It starts here in Detroit. In the auto industry, Detroit is the world leader in electric vehicles. You know how important that is. Mary, I remember speaking to you in January about the need for America to be the electric vehicle leader And I remember your dramatic announcement that GM would be 100 percent electric by 2035.
You changed the whole story, Mary, wherever – (Applause) – wherever you are. There they are. You did, Mary. You electrified the entire automotive industry. I'm serious. You have led – and this is important – dramatically improving the climate by reducing the hundreds of millions of barrels of oil that are no longer needed when we are all electric.
You know, until now China was leading this race, but that is about to change.

So where do we start? First of all, Detroit is not the world leader in electric vehicles; China is a world leader in sales and production of electric vehicles. In fact, just two paragraphs later, Biden himself says China led the way in that race.
Second, there is nothing "dramatic" about GM's pledge to move entirely to electric vehicles by 2035 – other automakers have set even more ambitious goals. By the way, there is a very successful American automaker that already only produces electric cars: Tesla.
Electric cars from the USA: Fisker Ocean: Three versions with ranges of up to 563 kilometers
Ford Mustang Mach-E GT: The 3.7-second car in the test
And then there was the icing on the cake that GM had "electrified the entire automotive industry." "Is that the same company that did after the recent production stop of the Chevrolet Bolt EV / Bolt EUV currently does not build any electric cars?
While everyone knows that politicians exaggerate facts to fit their desired narrative, a little more caution probably would have been appropriate. Nobody expected Biden to praise Tesla – or even mention it in front of UAW leaders and members. But to say that GM electrified the entire automotive industry is a bit of an exaggeration, you don't think?
Well, Elon Musk's reaction came by return of post …
