A new generation of solar cells could significantly expand the areas of application for PV systems by the flexibility of the modules. Even the operation of Laste-E-Bikes would be guaranteed. The company Opes Solutions based in Berlin, together with the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon-Photovoltaic CSP, has developed a flexible solar module that is to be used particularly in the area of vehicle integration. This emerges from a press release from Opes.
The module called "Solflex" is based on the principle of crystalline cells and offers about a third more power per square meter compared to other flexible modules based on the thin-layer technology. With only 2.9 millimeters, the modules are also particularly thin and around 70 percent lighter than comparable products.
The possible bending radius of 15 degrees is particularly interesting for use in the vehicle sector. It is also on curved surfaces such as a body (car roofs, fenders…) applicable. The frameless module should be extremely robust against weather and have a cell efficiency of over 22 percent. In addition, they are resistant to vibration, designed for high one -sided heat loads and have a particularly scratch -resistant surface.
Trucks and vans are responsible for around 29 percent of global CO2 emissions of the entire traffic sector. With a typical light and electrified commercial vehicle that is loaded with the current electricity mix, integrated solar modules can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 890 kilograms per year. The range of reach is around 2.400 kilometers. They also reduce operating costs by providing electricity for cooling systems.

Buses could also benefit from this invention, after all, an annual growth of 20 percent is expected for Europe alone. Lasts-e-bikes should become self-sufficient

The Berlin company is confident that the bending solar panels can also be attached here and ensure an additional range of up to 50 kilometers per day. Since many LODEN E-bikers hardly drive more than as many kilometers a day, the operation of a cargo-e bike with the bending solar cells would be almost self-sufficient-even beyond the summer months.
