Together with her partner Brilliance Automotive Group, the BMW Group has signed a long-term framework agreement to expand its joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA). Present were during the signing of the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. With signing of the framework contract, BBA is aiming for the increase in capacity from 2019 in the two local production sites in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. A total of 520.000 vehicles should run there from the band. Furthermore, it is planned that the fully electric BMW IX3 produced by BBA is exported from there in markets outside China.
“Today begins a new chapter in the success story of our Joint Ventures BMW Brilliance Automotive. Our agreement sets a long-term framework for our future in China – a future with continuous investment, further growth and a clear commitment to the development and production of electrical vehicles. The next chapter of our cooperation has the potential to go beyond our existing motto – in China for China -. The fully electric BMW IX3 produced by BBA from 2020 will find customers around the world “- Harald Kruger, chairman of the board of BMW AG
In 2017, around 560.000 vehicles delivered to customers in China. Looking at this number falls on that the sales figures are greater than in the two next largest markets – the USA and Germany – together. Two thirds of all vehicles dedicated in China were produced last year from BBA. From May 2019, the production of the BMW X3 in China begins, whose startup is planned for the second half of the year. The BMW X3 is the sixth in China localized BMW model.
But interesting is also the fact that the BMW Group operates a motor work on both automotive production sites, including a battery factory for electrified BMW vehicles, which are produced locally in Shenyang. It is the first battery factory operated by a premium automobile manufacturer in China.
The local production of the BMW IX3, the first full-electrical core model of the brand BMW, starts 2020 in Shenyang. The BMW IX3 is also intended for exporting in markets outside of China. It thus shows that the electrification has the highest priority at BMW AG.
