The BMW 2 Series Coupe accelerates: As a M240i XDrive, the compact Munich man drives some sports cars powerfully around the ears. The reasons are a good engine and technology from the BMW 4 Series.
You can’t completely get out of your skin at BMW. And that’s good. Although the BMW 1 Series are provided with a front wheel drive, the Munich coupe still indulges in the rear drive with the 2 Series Coupe, which was previously considered the dynamic unique selling point of the BMW models.
The BMW 2 Series is not a big one – luckily
That is why the BMW 2 Series such as the 3 Series and the 4 Series are on the Clar and not on the UKL platform like the current 1-series brothers. This also affects the optics. The new 2 Series Coupe dynamics arranges in the booth. It is about 2.8 centimeters lower at a height of 1.40 meters, with 1.84 meters by 6.4 centimeters wider than the predecessor and at 4.55 meters by 10.5 centimeters longer than before.

Advertisement diving at the kidney have opted for a classic solution. Yes, you are happy to get in this BMW. The joy increases the fact that the sporty, anti-tiny sheet metal dress with a CW value of 0.26 undercuts the predecessor by 0.02 points. A whole series of measures contribute to this value: among other things, a ten -stage air flap control in the kidney and the underlying air intake of the front apron.
Everything for aerodynamics
There are also "air resistance classics", such as Air Curtains, flush -sunk door handles, an almost complete coating of the underbody and a Gurney flap on the rear. It also helps with the downforce. Overall, the new BMW 2 Series Coupe generates around 50 percent less buoyancy than before. That’s a good thing. Because with 275 kW / 374 hp, the BMW M240i XDrive is stronger than the current M2.

For some, the 2 Series Coupe is the symbiosis of driving pleasure and everyday suitability, for others simply a vehicle with which you can easily have fun. That is why a sports suspension is also installed as standard, with which the developers of the vote have missed the meaningful nickname "Dirty Harry".

If you don’t want to constantly put the bad boys so uncompromisingly, you can get adaptive dampers into the car. "The regulated chassis is a conflict solder," says driving dynamic Claus Dieter Groll on the point. At BMW, the driving modes are now a small science in themselves, with which you like to deal with a lot of setting options. So you can configure the BMW M240i XDrive according to your own preferences. It should be clear that such a car with 374 hp and the obligation to cross the transverse dynamics is not an ultra-comfortable water bed. But even in the sports driving program, the 2 Series does not mercilessly rumbles over the unevenness of the ground.

The ingredients of an M vehicle are on board anyway: differential at the back, tail-heavy all-wheel drive, four-piston brakes at the front and a mixing tires of the 19 inch tires with 225 front and 255. In addition, everything that the 2 Series Coupe already brings is: a twelve percent stiff body and a track, which is 52 millimeters at the front and 31 millimeters wider at the back.

All chassis tricks exhausted
Similar to the BMW 4 Series, the technicians moved stiffeners in the front car and in the underbody with V-shaped struts. There are also stiffer sockets on the rear axle carrier and an increased negative fall on the front axle. All of this helps with agility. The improvements are noticeable when already steering in. Even if it is quick, the front car remains stable. In the curve, the wheelbase grown by five centimeters and the almost parity axle load distribution of sovereignty and in tight cures, the rear axle is eagerly involved in the cornering, but without presenting the driver before unsolvable tasks. On the contrary. The BMW M240i XDRIVE gives joy on country roads and tight serpentines alike.

Due to the lower roof line, the seating position for people beyond a height of 1.85 meters is a bit high. With this BMW M model, the steering wheel wreath does not go under a good white sausage thickness, but the steering itself could be more styled.
With the engine, BMW had to "Invest some"
A highlight is the forced -ventilated inline six -cylinder, in which the turbo boloch has been minimized despite the increasingly stricter emissions standards. "We invested a lot with the engine," explains Techniker Hartmut Pfleger. The work pays off. Especially in the sporty driving programs, the engine reacts quickly to the driver’s accelerator requirements in conjunction with the eight -speed automatic. The BMW M240i XDrive reaches from a standing pace after 4.3 seconds and is fast up to 250 km/h. When consumption, BMW specifies 8.8 l/100 km. We came to 11.9 l/100 km on our test drive, but were given the sound of the engine. Which unfortunately does not apply to the price: Anyone who has now got a taste for should be at least 56 by the spring of the next year.Hold 000 euros.

The car
is visually very successful, but the color would not be mine. But there are others too. Whereby … I no longer want such a coupe, no manufacturer. They are simply too impractical for me. If a two -doorer then I would prefer a Cabriolet. But everything is a matter of taste. Nice at least that BMW still dares such cars. Will be a classic sought, probably also in this color.
Great car from yesterday.
BMW is one of my favorite brands and I appreciate the engine construction skills, especially the inline knives. Unfortunately, this competence is no longer required. An M vehicle with E drive would have been a sign. I fear that the valuable brand image will soon be damaged and BMW will be considered reactionary. Pity.
What is an E drive ?
Today before the Aldi: Two Teslafahrers with how many horsepower (was the big model) arguing first and how long can load. Classic directly opposite a petrol station, after 6 minutes I was finished for another 550 km. E cars are something for technology spinners, but in the next 30 years due to a lack of infrastructure not for the width mass.
Very nice
Dare, just strange the BMW does not communicate that the car is built exclusively in Mexico!!! Probably you can no longer justify the exorbitant price with this info!!!
Yes and?
Many manufacturers do it that way. It is a shame if it is not manufactured in Germany, but the greed demands today after every conceivable savings, unfortunately.
Further development is no progress
Unfortunately the car is too wide. I drive an F22 M235ix and I just get it into my garage. This is designed for cars the size of a W202 or E46. Unfortunately, a compact class (golf class) coupe is larger nowadays and, above all, heavier. BMW bought the agility with a first -class engine and many tricks in the chassis, steering and gearbox. Unfortunately the chunk weighs almost 1.7 tons and has become 100 kg heavier and scratches the weight of a 730d! In my eyes, the topic is wrong: a potent little, light agile coupe. If I wanted to drive a big car, I would buy an M8. Since a women’s car like a mini (rather maxi in the dimensions) is not an option, BMW has lost me as a customer until further notice.
730d ?
So you cannot have meant a current 730d. Because on average it weighs around 2 tons. Is still a bit heavier than this 2. A comparison with a 7 series from ancient times also lags somehow. What do you think would be "A potent little light agile coupe"? The selection of new vehicles should be difficult.
Great car
Is a great car and looks really good. But to have reduced the CW value by 0.02 to the predecessor and find it so great is ridiculous. I would exchange my Model3 for this? Definitely not! This is quick, consumes significantly less, cost less, costs less in maintenance, has more residual value and is much more fun! And if I want to have motor sound and proper performance, I get in my 68 Mustang. This is 1.2 seconds slower and not quite as dynamic in the curve. But he has one thing where no 2 will come – an automotive cult status
Yes and?
What do I have more in everyday life, cult status or better acceleration and road holding? But well if you want to be admired for your car, your view may apply. Otherwise, I don’t think that all people compare their purchase decision with a Tesla. I would be careful with the residual value. This BMW in 20 years is worth more than your Model3 (that’s long dead).
At least …..
-A highlight is the forced -ventilated inline six -cylinder, in which the turbo boloch has been minimized despite the increasingly stricter emissions standards.- … Is that still a 3 liter six -cylinder. Although, according to BMW’s logic it would be a 245! Displacement of 1.5 turbo factor! Only: Why does a 374 hp turbo need a 374 horsepower? Exclusively because of the exhaust gas values!
Logic or not
The inline is a brilliant engine. Unfortunately the car is too big and difficult. It is no good on the narrow country roads in the Odenwald or Black Forest. And it doesn’t fit in my garage either. PS to the other response writer: BMW has never built a V6 in the car. They only have R6 and here with the best in the world.
