All good things are three: after the 4 Series Coupe and Cabrio, BMW adds the Gran Coupe. The assembly limousine plays the sporty card as M440i, but convinces with a good chassis. For this there is the pain surcharge on the petrol pump.
Contradictions are in. At least in the automotive industry. On the one hand, drivers want more and more comfort and space, on the other hand, the vehicles should be dynamic in terms of sport. Otherwise you can put a crocheted toilet paper roll on the hatchet. After all, the zeitgeist is progressive and that should also express your own vehicle. Visually, coupes or assembly limousines dissolve this contradiction: one do without leaving the other.
With the BMW 4 Series, every second wants the Gran Coupe
So it is not surprising that at the last BMW 4 Series, every second copy was a Gran Coupe towards the end of the term. Especially since the four -door coupe also looked very attractive. In this category, the new model is also pretty good. Everyone should form their own judgment through the kidney.

The Munich sales strategists should be powdered with the bracket bag if they didn’t roll a successor to the dealer. However, Bayern also stick to the classic order: first Coupe and Cabriolet and from the 13th. November finally the Gran Coupe. The straggler bears the internal model name G26 and has increased by 14.3 centimeters in length, 2.7 cm in width and 5.3 cm in height compared to the predecessor. So is 4.78 meters long, 1.85 meters wide and 1.44 meters high. The data sheet does not lie. The new 4 Series Gran Coupe is more massive than before. Somehow also fits the striking kidney cooler grille.

Technical subtleties in the chassis
However, no higher air resistance goes hand in hand with this additional sheet. Frameless doors and sunk door handles that are flush with the outer skin, contribute to a CW value of 0.26. That is 0.02 points less than before. The Gran Coupe, like the two brothers, stands on the Clar platform and is identical to the A-pillar. The additional stiffening measures in the area of the front car and on the rear axle are also installed on the 4 Series Gran Coupe and the chassis basically corresponds to that of the 4 Series Coupe. In the standard trim in the front, this means a double joint tray strut spring leg axle in aluminum-steel light construction with a hydraulically steamed train strut and an aluminum fifth axle at the back. The whole thing is garnished with lifting shock absorbers that increase the stability of the car.

In our test car, the alternatively available M-sports suspension with electronically regulated adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled differential is installed on the rear axle. In this way, the demanding balancing act between comfort and dynamics should be realized. The request is flanked by well -known driving modes, which can also be refined according to their own taste. The technology fulfills its task and the spread of the individual programs is clearly noticeable. In Comfort long distances are also relaxed. The BMW M440i XDRIVE Gran Coupe also in the Sport plus setting the cushioning of the 1.825 kilograms of live weight not set.

With a BMW with the letter "M" in the name, whether pure -bred or with the addition 440i, is defined by agility. The perfect axle load distribution gives the brisk Bavaria in a rapidly taken curves stability. However, the weight of the twice charged six -cylinder is noticeable. The steering with the usual thick valance wreath is precise, but could make it even more clear to the pilot what it looks like under the 245 pneus. If you get everything out of the Gran Coupe, the BMW reaches land street pace after 4.7 seconds and is captured by the electronics at 250 km/h. The Munich carmaker specifies the average consumption with 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers, with us it was 11.1 l/100 km.

So that it does not get going at all, up to 40 assistance systems support the driver. The adaptive speed control is not only based on the vehicles in front, the navigation system and the topography of the route, but also on traffic lights. Red is then called the BMW M440i XDrive Gran Coupe – and automatically. In the traffic jam, the BMW now automatically forms a rescue alley and updates are re -installed wirelessly.
Interior does not set its own accents
The interior is like that of the other 4-series models like one egg to the other. The infotainment is also on the latest BMW stand. This also includes a touchscreen up to 12.3 inches, which is still flanked by a rotary presser when operating. The graphic of the user interface is also congruent with that of the series siblings: i.e. tiled optics in infotainment and the BMW sicheln in virtual cockpit. Of course, the operating concept also includes a head-up display with a 70 percent enlarged projection surface in which the displays can be adjusted by the driver as required. However, the BMW customers have to do without the augmented reality variant with the flying arrows. "The practicability makes the car so unique," says product manager Andreas Ederer. The wheelbase grows by 4.6 centimeters to 2.86 meters, which of course has a positive effect on the fund space offer. Nevertheless, there is no opulent business class feeling for people beyond a height of 1.85 meters due to the sloping roof line.

Don’t get me away from my M3. Find the oversized "kidney" ugly – how … at the Audi, which is why I would never buy an ingolstatter.
Yes …..
…………. That’s right if you incorporate 3-4 schnapps and then really get trouble you can guess the kidney in the grille! But where is it actually written that it doesn’t work without a kidney? I find the new grill more than successful.
It’s just a trademark
A BMW includes the kidney like the star to Mercedes. Neither of the two manufacturers will do without it. I think the current kidneys also like it, I like better than that of 20 years ago.
