BMW refreshes IX3 and I3; Not just in design

With the start of the two electric models IX and I4 in November, BMW starts a new era of purely electrical mobility. In parallel, the existing model program of the Munich is specifically developed in parallel with autumn. Additional drive variants and innovations in the areas of design and digital services should increase the variety and the attractiveness of the current offer, the manufacturer in a recent communication. However, this mainly affects the combustion palette. In terms of electromobility, the BMW I3, which has been in production for about eight years, is offered from November to a limited edition as Edition Unique Forever. And in the BMW IX3, a predictive battery heat management will optimize the use of DC fast charging stations.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW IX3

In order to ensure the fastest possible and efficient power supply to DC fast charging stations, regardless of the operating and outside temperatures, the compact SUV IX3 is equipped with an intelligent thermal management for the high-voltage battery from November. As soon as the active route guidance of the navigation system provides a stopover on a High Power Charging Station, it already ensures automatic preconditioning of the battery during the journey.

The corresponding heating or cooling should ensure that the high-voltage battery has the time for recharging with maximum power at the arrival. Among other things, the heat management system takes into account the battery temperature, the residual range, the predicted charging power and the scope of the charging process planned under the total route calculation.

BMW I3 and BMW i3s in the Edition Unique Forever

From November the models I3 and I3s are to have in the Edition Unique Forever. According to its own statement, the naming for the new special edition refers to the unique character of the first BMW designed for purely electrical mobility from the beginning. The I3 is not only with its drive, but also with its particularly light passenger compartment made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and an extensive use of natural and recycling materials in its interior for a holistic understanding of sustainability. He is therefore also a world’s well-known symbol for locally emission-free urban mobility eight years after its launch.

The edition vehicles are characterized by BMW especially high-quality and exclusive design and equipment features. For a stylish appearance, the two individual paintings for the exterior are to be selected for the I3 for the first time. The Variant Aventurinrot Metallic is combined with an accent in Frozen Gray Metallic and the exterior color Storm Bay Metallic with an accent in Frozen e-Copper. The inner surfaces of the BMW kidney are also executed in the respective accent color.

Other features include the elimination of the trim and model letters on the luggage compartment flap and a black inserter for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the equipment world suite – including the leather combination of Vernasca Dark Truffle, the kept instrument panel, the precious wood surface in the variant oak dark matt, the leather steering wheel, the roof sky held in carum gray and the ambience lighting – adds specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the lettering “Unique Forever”, the door trim panels in the area of the outside mirror bear the inscription “One of 2000”.
