Just over a week ago, the Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD officially launched its second product series “e”, which is operated parallel to the product series “Dynasty”. Three sedan models and two SUV models, which will be introduced in 2019, can now be found in the all-electric “e” series. Furthermore, from April 1st, 2019, they will start accepting orders for the BYD e1, the first model for the new series.
Small car BYD e1 goes into series production
The BYD e1 qualifies as a small car and has dimensions of 3.465mm length, 1st.618 mm width and 1.500mm height. The wheelbase is 2.340 mm stated. The BYD electric car is powered by a permanent magnet motor with 61 hp (45 kW), and the vehicle draws its energy from a Ni-Co lithium manganate battery pack.
The vehicles of the “E” series build on a pure electrical platform presented on the car China 2018. The “E platform” can be explained as a number series “33111”, with two “3” S on the integration of three drive train components (electric motor, electronic control unit and retarder) and the “three in a” high voltage charging system with OEC, DC and PDU relate.
The “111” stands for a motherboard, a panel and a battery. Specifically, the first “1” is a printed circuit board, the dozens of control modules such as car lamps, air conditioners and intelligent keys, etc. integrated. The second “1” represents a large-format, vehicle-based, intelligent, rotatable screen equipped with the intelligent system DILINK, and the last “1” refers to a long-range, powerful power battery module.
Distinction between smart e-cars and pioneering models
According to BYD’s planning, the “e” series positions itself as a smart electric car provider with a focus on quality, cost-efficiency and new intelligent mobility life, and the matrix “Dynasty”, designed as a forward-looking leader for the electric car era, highlights technology advice, vehicle performance and experience.
Otherwise, BYD is still making the planned delivery of more than 1.000 electric cars to Thailand, the replacement of all diesel vehicles by electric cars or the establishment of battery cell production in Europe. In addition to the search for a European location, the Chinese company is tasked with bringing a spin-off of the battery division to the stock exchange. The IPO is planned for the end of 2022.
So far, BYD operates three battery plants in Shenzhen, Qinhai and Guangdong. At the end of February 2019, the foundation stone was laid for the fourth battery factory, which will have a capacity of 20 gigawatt hours and will be built in Chongqing’s Bishan district
