An SUV to marvel at
The Land Rover Discovery Sport in the everyday test. The entry-level model from the off-road brand is convincing?

The Land Rover Discovery Sport amazes when you open the trunk for the first time: because it is surprisingly large. Almost 80 centimeters high and in a five-seater configuration with a loading volume of 963 liters, it is also suitable for large-scale shopping without folding down the rear seats. The Brit can even be equipped with a third row of seats for an extra charge of CHF 1,440. So the SUV is always suitable as a transporter for family, luggage and other things.
The entry-level Landrover also wants to amaze with its appearance. This is strongly based on the larger and more expensive models from the company’s own series – and with success: the Discovery Sport is in no way inferior to its larger brothers – and looks much more elegant than the basic price of 49,900 francs (D150 AWD) would suggest . However: The test car with complete equipment and top engine is over 80,000 francs.
The most powerful engine in the SUV is a 2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. In addition, the Discovery Sport received a 48-volt electrical system including mild hybrid components with the facelift. So he can already switch off the engine when rolling below 17km/h, which helps to save fuel. However, the drive caused astonishment in the negative sense in the test: the factory consumption was already high at 9.3 l/100 km, in the test it was a good liter more. Measured against the technical effort, that’s too much despite almost two tons of unladen weight and 250 hp – especially since the drive doesn’t look very lively on the road.
