Caught: Audi is working on an electric SUV for China-china

In April of this year, Audi secretly unveiled a fully electric SUV concept during Auto Shanghai 2021 in China. It was a 4.87 meter long, high-legged electric vehicle that was on the VW's MEB platform-Group based and probably many components with the VW ID.6 Splits.

The study windows were still darkened during the show, but Audi seems to be making progress in developing the production vehicle, like these new Erlkonig shots now show.

Interestingly, this prototype was photographed in Germany and it wore a full body camouflage. The test vehicle parked in a public parking lot seems to carry all parts of the production vehicle and the similarities with the Shanghai concept are obvious. The towering nose at the front and the slim headlights create a front section that looks very similar to the study. Definitely not a bad thing.

Our photographers managed to take two pictures of the interior of the vehicle, which no longer showed any camouflage. As you can see in our gallery, it has beautiful leather seats with white stitching, a floating center console and a large display on the dashboard. The layout seems to match the interior of the Q4 e-tron to be very similar, even if it appears to be made of cheaper materials.

In China, where the production version of the E-SUV is to be sold from next year, the as yet unnamed model will be positioned between the Q5 and the Q7. In some ways, it will be a more affordable version of the Audi e-tron as the new model is based on the VW ID.6 and is likely to offer less powerful electric drives.

We believe that Audi will present the electric SUV before the end of the year. It will also – at least initially – be sold exclusively in China and we expect it to have similar performance and range values as the ID.6.
