With BYD (Build Your Dreams), one of the world’s largest electromobility specialists is building a new plant in Tangier, Morocco. According to media reports, the Chinese manufacturer wants to build electric cars, buses and trucks there and manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. The Chinese are once again approaching the attractive vehicle market in Europe. The Chinese brand is already producing electric buses in Hungary, France and England, and in some cases it was only half a year between the announcement and the opening of these plants.

The company, supported by the US billionaire and investor Warren Buffett, which also builds electric cars for the home market with Daimler under the brand name Denza, wants to create jobs for almost 2,500 employees in Morocco and also open the new plant in Tangier in record time. Production is scheduled to start as early as next year. The manufacturer has not yet revealed which vehicles BYD intends to build first.

The plant is to be built on an area known as Tech City near the port city of Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar, not far from a ship terminal ideally suited for vehicle export – just a few nautical miles from mainland Europe. The European car manufacturers Renault and soon Peugeot-Citroën (PSA) also use the location in North Africa, which is considered to be quite attractive due to low wages and taxes, a low inflation rate and high political stability.
