The extreme roadster Donkervoort D8 GTO from the Netherlands weighs only 700 kilos and is lighter than a VW Polo. But it also has 380 hp and drives faster than a Porsche 911.
L.Easier than a VW Polo and stormier than a Porsche 911 – this is what the Dutch sports car manufacturer Donkervoort promises for its new D8 GTO model. The open two-seater will be built by hand in Lelystad just outside Amsterdam in around 600 hours and will be available from this autumn at prices from 126,735 euros. The company boss Joop Donkervoort announced.
The roadster is extremely puristic in order to keep the vehicle weight as low as possible. There are no brake boosters and power steering, and full windows and a convertible top have also been saved.
Since the car is 3.74 meters long and 1.14 meters high, and the body is largely made of carbon, the lightest version weighs just 695 kilograms – barely half as much as a Porsche Boxster, for example.
Only a maximum of 60 cars a year
In the narrow bow is a five-cylinder turbo engine, which Donkervoort purchases from Audi and offers in three output levels from 340 hp to 380 hp. In the most powerful version, the 2.5-liter unit develops up to 475 Newton meters of torque and accelerates the roadster to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds. The top speed is 270 km / h, the manufacturer gives the average fuel consumption of around eight to ten Liters.
For comparison: a Porsche Turbo S with 560 hp needs exactly 3.1 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km / h. However, the top speed of 285 km / h is slightly higher than at Donkervoort. But a Porsche also weighs at least twice as much as the crazy roadster from the Netherlands.
According to Donkervoort, the D8 GTO meets registration requirements across Europe. There are bases in all countries for service work. The company already has a partner in Germany and is looking for around three more. The cars are only sold at the headquarters in Lelystad, where customers can configure their cars individually. Donkervoort plans to build 40 to 60 vehicles a year.
