A purely electric golf-sized compact car with a peak output of 320 kW that sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds: The UrbanRebel is a bold statement from the Cupra brand and was one of the real surprises at this year’s IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich: Seat’s performance brand presented its new design vision in the form of a motorsport-inspired show car that provides a glimpse of Cupra’s future, all-electric city car.
But the Cupra UrbanRebel Concept is much more than just a show car – it is a high-performance racing car, according to the manufacturer in a recent press release. Some observers are said to have claimed that it was just a design study with no working drive components. But on the test track in Martorell, the UrbanRebel, which is based on the VW Group’s MEB platform, can actually drive. At the wheel: Cupra Director of Research and Development, Dr. Werner Tietz.
The Cupra UrbanRebel Concept accelerates to 100 km/h in just under three seconds. This is made possible by its two engines, which drive the racing car to peak performance. The fact that this thrill is generated 100 percent electrically is the icing on the cake. “The Cupra UrbanRebel is a bold statement from the brand that electrification doesn’t have to be boring,” says Cupra CEO Dr. Werner Tietz. “This vehicle has an impressive continuous output of 250 kW and a peak output of 320 kW. It’s just great fun to drive this concept,” he adds.
With its wide air inlets and outlets and the oversized spoiler, the air resistance of the Cupra UrbanRebel Concept is minimized when driving. The compact racing concept is 4.080 millimeters long and 1.444 millimeters high; Due to its focus on aerodynamics, it still maintains contact with the road with plenty of grip and can easily take corners without losing stability, according to the development board. “Thanks to its unique chassis and steering setup, the Cupra UrbanRebel Concept offers highly precise handling, which will also serve as an inspiration for the future road version,” concludes Tietz.

Absolute nonsense and doesn’t help anyone. Anyone can install a powerful electric motor in a cart at will. If Seat is really entitled to something, it is to offer a cheaper ID.3 offshoots for maybe 27.000€ to put on the market. If I were in VW management, I would check whether the brand could be discontinued. She has no profile.
We need small cars for urban areas, like the electric Mii, but production was simply stopped to replace the plastic bowl from ID.3 for sale.
here’s a glimpse of the future:

The design is great, but it seems to me a bit like it was in the 90s – many people made a thick exhaust pipe for the front apron and rear spoiler on their 75hp Golf II in order to conceal the lack of system performance through + noise and optics.
MEB is just MEB no matter in which “robe” 😉
