Max Verstappen is currently the fast export model from the Netherlands. But just behind the Formula 1 pilot, the Donkertvoort D8 GTO is already lurking. Five roaring cylinders and 435 hp provide puristic driving fun without the same.

You can like a Donkervoort, but you don’t have to, because it is special and polarizing. The Dutch car manufacturer has been creating emotional and uncompromising sports cars for years, which can no longer offer a large series manufacturer and that is precisely what makes the charm of an open double -owner like the D8 GTO.

A Donkervoort wants to polarize

Donkervoort D8 GTO is driven by an old friend who can easily find its place under the long bonnet of the fun maker. The fifth cylinder with turbocharging comes from Audi and fires the RS3 or the RS Q3, among others.

At Audi refiner Abt there was a slight revision for the engine to 325 kW / 435 hp and 570 nm maximum torque between 1.750 and 6.350 rpm. The big difference is, however, the performance -weight, because while the 2.5 liter turbo engine in the dress of the four Ingolstadt rings has to move 1.6 tons or more, it is not even on board the Donkervoort D8 GTO, which is only 1.08 meters high the half. With a manageable 695 kilograms, the Dutchman on the street becomes a real floor that fits perfectly on a racetrack.

Compared to the Donkervoort JD70, the 3.84-meter-long D8 GTO creates the racetrack of Spa-Francorchamps 1.4 seconds faster and has a maximum speed of eleven km/h on the melee. The specific performance of the 2.5-liter engine could be increased from 167 hp / liter to 174 hp / liter. But in addition to the better driving performance, the D8 GTO with its body made of carbon fiber and aluminum offers significantly larger individualization options, so that the potential customers get a real one -off in their own garage.

Servole steering is only available as an extra

A manual five -speed gearbox is available for the individual series, with different gear levers available for the right handle or a six -speed double coupling with switching paddles. Only as an option there is an adjustable electronic power steering for the ambitious pilot. Also freely selectable: In addition to the standard brake system, a version with six-piston brake calipers is available as well as racing ABS at the customer’s request. At the front and back there is a chassis with a single wheel suspension, double triangles, screw springs, 4-fold-adjustable intrax shock absorbers, whereby the stabilizer can be adjusted at the front.

Floor power -optimized charge air coolers, new injection nozzles and a changed engine control were adapted to the higher engine output. The standard consumption: a good 8.0 liters per 100 kilometers. If desired, it goes from a standstill in arrow -fast 2.6 seconds to 100 km / h or in 7.6 seconds to 200 km / h. The maximum pace: spectacular 286 km/h. The tank volume of 48 liters does not let you too often at the petrol pump at moderate pace and if you want, you can even pack the bought luggage for a long weekend in the winding mountains with the 250 -liter load space. The price was admittedly washed: 197.109 euros.

Hopefully I can make it before only more electrocraxes can be registered. I had already considered the JD70, now it’s the GTO. Perhaps there is still an increase until then. I am currently driving a Caterham SVR 200 as a second car. 200 PS, 560 kg. 0-100 3.7 sec. Lace 225 km/h.

Or with researchers a little more is not much for 435 hp. My Caterham with 2.3 liter engine from Cosworth (200 hp and fully filled up 560 kg) needs more.
