Already towards the end of 2017, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the country wanted to bring a new car brand to life until 2021. These plans were more concrete in June 2018 and already experienced a sharpening in April 2019. Now further details were known.

Meanwhile, it is clear that the first E-car manufactured in Turkey is expected to come to the street in the second half of 2022. Then it should be able to cover up to 500 km purely electrically, such as industrial and technology ministers Mustafa Varank. From his point of view, the Turkish automobile as a technology project will change the automotive industry and make competitive with other countries.

“We will work out our own automobile as a project to fully compete with its competitors and create an ecosystem in this area. We see it not only as an automotive project. There is a great change in the world, and the automotive industry also experiences this change and changing the fastest.”- Mustafa Varank, industrial and technology minister Turkey

Serial maturity from 2022 reached; Prototype may sees the light of the world in 2019

Be planned first with one hundred thousand vehicles per year, where the first model should be presented in 2021 and 2022 finds its way to the street. The prototypes we may get to face in 2019. An export of the E-car initially not planned, but not completely excluded. The 15-year plan of the project sees the production of five models and three facelift versions.

The first E-car was created based on an older Saab model. Now you put on a complete new development. An e-SUV will become the first electric car of the Turkey‘s Automobile Initiative Group. Bosch Manager Mehmet Gurcan Karakas, a native Turk and the supplier as a regional board for the Division of Electric Drives at the Buhlertal site, has been conducting the consortium since September 2018, where five companies are involved.

E-car of Turkey to be the best way to the bestseller

“Probably the car is offered for sale in the second half of 2022 and brought to the market. People are waiting for this car. It looks like there will be a demand for that.”- Mustafa Varank, industrial and technology minister Turkey

This statement is supported by Varank’s assumption of Alper Kanca, from the local car supplier association, which is currently assuming that the taxes for electric cars are lowered so far that the national car is cheaper for the average Turkish consumer than a new VW Golf with internal combustion engine. This would of course be a wonderful starting length for Turkey’s Automobile Initiative Group.

Varank also announced that she soon announced the location of the Research and Development Center (F&E) will be announced. “If you want to make an investment, prefer the nearest location to the supplier. So you want to choose an area where you can use the ecosystem most efficiently, “he said. “The talks about the location of the factory are in progress. For reasons of business secrecy, we will not share information about this topic. We also do not reveal the segment of the first model. However, we plan to find a price that will compete with all models on the world markets.”

According to the Minister, three-dimensional drawings and engineering studies are currently being developed. He said that a team of 40 engineers in the company are employed with the research and development of the project and gave to understand that the group is expected to reach 300 employees by the end of the year.
