Electric car in winter
Please clear!
The winter test with the Porsche Taycan 4S shows that electric cars work very well in ice and snow – if everyone thinks along.
No getting through for the Porsche Taycan 4S.

The heavy snowfalls of the past few days have made road traffic a challenge at times. A challenge that the Porsche Taycan 4S proved to be up to. The test car was equipped with the optional “Performance Battery Plus” (7930 francs), which gives it 83.7 kWh of energy. That’s enough for around 300 kilometers of unrestricted driving, even in adverse conditions.
The fast and sensitive all-wheel drive, which thanks to two independent motors can adapt to the current grip situation with practically no delay, together with the low center of gravity and the sensitive steering ensure a very safe and confident driving experience – the perfect companion in difficult conditions. In addition, the Stromer offers advantages in terms of comfort in winter, since it can be preheated, for example, via the smartphone app or for a programmable time without the engine having to be running. And as an e-car driver, you don’t know the worry that the car might not start in the morning. On the other hand, the test showed that completely different concerns can arise when there is heavy snowfall: At the newly set up fast charging station from “Fastned” near Suhr, where the Taycan can charge its battery to 80% in just under 23 minutes the snow clearing service is not included. The rest area was cleared, but the snow was pushed directly in front of the entrance to the charging station, the charging areas remained snow-covered and inaccessible. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated case – the charging stations at the Wurenlos service area were not cleared, in contrast to other parking lots. Thanks to the air suspension with “lift function”, the Taycan 4S was able to fight its way to the plug there. After all: There are numerous, albeit slower, alternatives that the navigation system in the Porsche, which costs at least 129,100 francs, finds reliably; Payment also works perfectly: Porsche supplies a card that is accepted at almost all public charging stations and bills centrally; the customer only receives one invoice.
