VW ID.3
At 4.26 meters, the VW ID.3 is roughly the same length as the Golf, but the wheelbase is 14 centimeters longer. This should lead to an interior space like in the Passat.
The trunk volume is almost identical to that of the Golf, but there should be significantly more legroom in the rear. The drive is provided by an electric motor with 150 kW or, in the cheaper versions, with 107/110 kW.
The three announced battery variants are now all on the market, plus there are two different electric motors. An all-wheel drive like the ID.4 is not yet on the market, but is likely to follow at some point. The prices start at around 32,000 euros. The Pro version with 110 kW is available for this.

Polestar 2
The manufacturer rightly calls the Polestar 2 a five-door hatchback, because the car has a large tailgate. The drive technology is apparently the same as in the Volvo XC40 Pure Electric. But the Polestar is significantly longer at 4.61 meters; he belongs to the middle class.
A bearable 39,900 euros were named as the base price in spring 2020. This promise has only now been kept (a year later): with the new front-wheel drive variants. The car competes against the Tesla Model 3, which can even be seen in the same version designations: The well-known version is now called "Long Range Dual Motor". Tesla was previously cheaper here, but Polestar 2 is now offering the version almost 10,000 euros cheaper than before.
- Base price: 41,930 euros (Standard Range Single Motor)
- Drive: 1 electric motor at the front (165 or 170 kW) or 2 electric motors (150 kW each)
- System performance / system torque: 165 to 300 kW / 330 or 660 Nm
- 0-100 km / h / top speed: 4.7 seconds / 205 km / h (all-wheel drive)

Tesla Model 3
At 4.69 meters in length, Model 3 is about the same size as the BMW i4 and also belongs to the mid-range. The sportiest version (performance) sprints to 100 in 3.3 seconds, the one with the greatest range (long range) creates 580 kilometers according to WLTP.
In addition to the two variants mentioned, there is also the standard Plus basic model with a range of 448 km. This is the only model with rear-wheel drive, the others are "dual motor" versions. If you order in March now, according to the configurator, you will get your car in May. Prices start at around 41,000 euros, but that includes the 3,000 euros manufacturer's share of the environmental bonus.
- Base price: 40,970 euros (Standard Plus, including VAT, including 3,000 euros environmental bonus, including processing fee)
- Drive: E-motor at the rear with 239 kW / 325 PS and 420 Nm (Standard Plus)

BMW i4
The BMW i4 will be launched in November 2021. The basis of the 4.78 meter long sedan is the next generation of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, which has not yet been presented.
Two engine versions have been announced. The i4 eDrive40 with 250 kW rear-wheel drive and the i4 M50 with 400 kW all-wheel drive. Both versions have an 81 kWh battery, so that the rear-wheel drive car with 590 kilometers is the version with the longest range. That's 10 km more than the Tesla Model 3 offers. The all-wheel drive version sprints to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds. Here, too, the i4 is slightly ahead of the Tesla: The Model 3 Long Range needs 4.4 seconds for the standard sprint.
- Base price: 58,300 euros (
- Drive: rear electric motor with 250 kW or 2 electric motors (all-wheel drive) with 400 kW
- Battery: 81 kWh net

Xpeng P7
The most exotic model in our list is probably the P7 from the Chinese manufacturer Xpeng. With a length of 4.88 meters, the electric sedan lies between Model 3 and Model S. The three cheapest versions have rear-wheel drive and 196 kW, while the top version has a 120 kW front engine in addition to the 196 kW rear engine. Three batteries are offered, they have about 60, 70 and 80 kWh. The maximum range is 706 km in the NEDC cycle; there is no WLTP value.
In China, the P7 basic model only costs around 30,000 euros. By local standards that is of course a ridiculous price, but in this country the car is not yet on sale either. The Xpeng G3 SUV model recently became available in Norway, and the P7 is scheduled to launch in Europe in 2021. Then the prices will probably also be based on European standards.
- Base price: 229,900 yuan (approx. 30,000 euros)
- Drive: 1 rear electric motor with 196 kW (RWD Standard Range)
- Battery / range: 60 kWh / 708 km NEDC
- Charging time: 5h with AC (30-80%), 30 min DC (30-80%)
- Length: 4.88 meters
- Trunk: 440 liters, maximum value not known

Lynk & Co Zero
The Lynk & Co Zero is still a study, but it already looks pretty close to series production, so we included it. The Zero is based on Geely's SEA platform and has an 800-volt battery system, so it should be able to charge very quickly.
How big the battery will be is unknown, but the range should be 700 kilometers. The performance data of the engine or engines are also unknown, but the car accelerates to 100 km / h in under four seconds. The air suspension fits in with the character of a high-end vehicle. With a length of 4.95 meters, the car competes against the Model S. Production is scheduled to start in mid-2021, with delivery in China in the last quarter. Whether and when the car will come to us remains speculation for the time being.
- 0-100 km / h: approx. 4 seconds.
- Range: 700 km (without standard specification)
- Length: 4.95 meters
- Market opening: end of 2021 (China)

Porsche Taycan
Porsche's first electric car (viewed from historical models like the Lohner Porsche) is the Taycan, a four-door sedan almost five meters long. Why Porsche didn't opt for a real sports car a la 911 or an SUV remains the secret of the Zuffenhausen-based company. With the Cross Turismo, they will soon be adding a station wagon variant.
The new basic version (with the name Taycan, without any additions) has rear-wheel drive, there are also three all-wheel drive vehicles called Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. The basic versions Taycan and Taycan S are available with 79 or 93 kWh battery , the others only with 93 kWh. The range is up to 484 kilometers (Taycan with Performance Plus battery), which is disappointing compared to the Tesla Model S Long Range (663 km). The special features of the Taycan include the 800-volt technology in the battery and the two-speed transmission on the rear axle.
- Base price: 83,520 euros (Taycan)
- Drive: rear-wheel drive with 240 kW (326 PS) rated power and 345 Nm (Taycan)
- 0-100 km / h: 5.4 seconds (Taycan)
- Top speed: 230 km / h (Taycan)
- Battery: 79 kWh gross (optional 93 kWh) (Taycan)
- Range: 431 km WLTP (Taycan)

Audi e-tron GT
The Audi equivalent to the Porsche Taycan is the e-tron GT. The platform called J1 is the same, and the drive is basically identical. However, Audi has slightly different performance data than Porsche and there is (at least initially) no version with rear-wheel drive.
There are two all-wheel drive versions at the start: the normal e-tron GT with 350 kW and the RS e-tron GT with 440 kW. They thus correspond roughly to the Taycan 4S or the Taycan Turbo. Both versions have the larger battery from the Taycan with 86 kWh net or 93 kWh gross. The range is 452 to 488 km. Prices start at around 100,000 euros, the RS costs around 38,000 euros more.
- Base price: 99,800 euros (e-tron GT)
- Drive: all-wheel drive with 350 kW (476 PS) rated power and 630 Nm (e-tron GT)
- 0-100 km / h: 4.1 seconds (e-tron GT)

Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S is the undisputed king in terms of range. Especially since Elon Musk stepped up again in January. At that time the new plaid version was presented, but more on that in a moment. One of the special features of the new Model S version is the heavily redesigned cockpit with a touchscreen in landscape format.
There are now three versions in the Tesla configurator: The maximum range version now costs 87,970 euros. The Plaid + variant offers the highest range, namely an almost unbelievable 837 km, for around 150,000 euros. The third version is the plaid with a range of 628 km. The two Plaid versions have three engines and only need around 2.1 seconds for the 100 km / h sprint, while the base model needs 3.2 seconds.
- Base price: 87,970 euros (version maximum range)
- Drive: all-wheel drive (all versions)
- 0-100 km / h: 3.2 seconds (maximum range)
- Top speed: 250 km / h (maximum range)

BYD Han EV
China is the Eldorado of electric sedans. BYD offers the Han, a chic, 4.96 meter long model that has been on the Chinese market since July 2020. Either a 160 kW two-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive with 197 kW provides the drive. There is also apparently a performance variant with 358 kW.
The BYD blade battery, which is based on LFP chemistry, is apparently used as the battery. According to China Auto News it stores 77 kWh and enables a range of 600 km according to the NEDC. The model will also come to Europe, but when is written in the stars.
- Drive: two- or four-wheel drive, various versions
- Range: approx. 600 km NEDC
- Length: approx. 5 meters

Lucid Air
The Air from the Californian manufacturer Lucid Motors is another five-meter ship that will compete against the Model S and the Taycan. The 900 volt system ensures short charging times. The Air should recharge its range twice as fast as the Porsche Taycan: The Air recharges 480 km in 20 minutes, the Taycan Turbo S takes 22.5 minutes for 260 km.
There are four models available on the Lucid website. The limited Air Dream Edition starts first. This top version with over 1,000 hp is expected to be available in spring 2021 and offer a range of around 800 kilometers. However, it also costs $ 161,500. The basic version Air Pure (486 PS, 650 km range) will be available from the beginning of 2022 and then cost 69,900 dollars (about 59,000 euros). Air is scheduled to arrive in Europe at the end of 2021; You can already reserve it in Germany.
- Base price: $ 69,900 (Air Pure, equivalent to approx. 59,000 euros)
- Motors: 2 electric motors with 486 to 1,090 hp
- Range: up to 830 km (estimated value for EPA standard)
- Charging: up to 19 kW AC, up to 300 kW DC
- Length: 4.98 meters
- Luggage compartment: 456 liters at the rear plus 202 liters at the front (GCIE standard)

Nio ET7
Finally, a delicacy from China: the ET7 from Nio. So far, the brand has only had electric SUVs on the market. But the ET7 has been announced for the beginning of 2022, a 5.10 meter long sedan. The rather chic ship has a four-wheel drive with 480 kW.
Two battery versions are offered, one with 70 and one with 100 kWh. At the end of 2022, a solid-state battery with 150 kWh is to be added, which should have a range of no less than 1,000 km – that would probably beat the Tesla Model S Plaid +, even if this is the NEDC value. Other special features of the ET7 include the autonomous driving capabilities (with lidar scanner) and the battery exchange system in China.
- Drive: 1 electric motor (PSM) at the front with 180 kW, 1 electric motor (ASM) at the rear with 300 kW
- 0-100 km / h: 3.9 seconds.
- Battery: at the start 70 or 100 kWh, later 150 kWh
- Range: 500 or 700 or 1,000 km NEDC

Mercedes EQS
The Mercedes EQS was unveiled in April. At 5.21 meters, the sedan is about the same size as the S-Class, but the technical basis of the EQS is a purely electric platform called EVA. In addition, the car does not have a trunk lid like the S-Class, but a large tailgate. One of the special features is the excellent aerodynamics: In terms of drag coefficient, the EQS is even the best production model.
The EQS 450+ has a 245 kW rear-wheel drive, the EQS 580 4Matic an all-wheel drive with 385 kW. Both get a 108 kWh battery, which makes 780 and 676 WLTP kilometers possible. Charges with up to 200 kW in 31 minutes. Other versions will follow, including the AMG version and a version with a 90 kWh battery.
- Base price: 106,374 euros (EQS 450+) or 135,529 euros (EQS 580 4Matic)
- Drive: rear-wheel drive with 245 kW or all-wheel drive with 385 kW
- 0-100 km / h: 6.2 or 4.3 seconds.

Small electric cars from Smart Fortwo to Renault 5
Electric SUVs were initially the largest group among electric cars, but now there are more and more electric sedans. Here we show all the models on the market, sorted by size. We start with the compact VW ID.3 and work our way up to the five-meter ships Nio ET7 and Mercedes EQS.
It contains both hatchback sedans and notchback cars, some models that do not exist in Germany (such as the aforementioned Nio). We treated the small cars, which could also be counted among the hatchbacks, separately. Cars for which there are only Erlkonig pictures, like Mercedes EQE and BMW i7, are also left out, and especially future models such as the Trinity project from VW.
The Citroen e-C4, We added the Mazda MX-30 and Jaguar I-Pace to the electric SUVs, although they might also be seen as sedans. Also the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can be found in our SUV overview, because it only looks like a hatchback sedan, but with a height of 1.61 meters it is probably an SUV, just like its sister model Kia EV6. We didn't include range extender cars like Karma Revero as well as hydrogen cars like the Toyota Mirai.
We currently have a good dozen models in our market overview, but it will continue to expand step by step. As soon as new models are foreseeable, we will update the overview. We have probably also forgotten one or the other exotic species. If you find a missing model or any other error, please send us an email to stefan.leichsenring@insideEVs.de, then we improve it.
