In this edition of the EAN podcast, Andreas Guba, Managing Director of emonet, talks to me about charging options in rural areas. According to emonet, the expansion of charging infrastructure in rural areas is essential for the breakthrough in e-mobility. For this reason, the focus of their own offer is on rental housing areas, business parks and centers of small and medium-sized towns. Urban conurbations, on the other hand, are uninteresting – since there are already corresponding market competitors here.
From 2022, the Guba company plans to set up charging parks on its own land, which is located directly in rental residential areas, in business parks and in the centers of small and medium-sized towns and communities. It is important to not only offer simple wall boxes, but to build the entire charging park modularly. At the heart of the emonet charging park is a central terminal for direct payment, which also contains the meters and controls the charging processes of the individual wall boxes.
Parking spaces are offered either covered (carport) or with a garage. Both are equipped with solar canopies. The garages are of particular importance at the beginning of the emonet charging park. Since these are to be rented out to private individuals in order to generate initial income. Because Guba cannot imagine living from sold electricity for its own charging parks. For this reason, snack and drink vending machines are set up in the squares and there is also an offer of car sharing e-cars, which can be used by everyone.
The charging parks are set up in consultation with local authorities, housing associations, companies and regional partners. Investors can use a crowdinvesting offer on ecozins.de participate “in the future-oriented filling of this market niche”, as Guba explains. In addition, it is also planned to work together with larger partners in order to launch the emonet charging parks throughout Germany. Quite an interesting approach, but listen for yourself and learn more.
You are also welcome to e-mail me with questions about e-mobility that concern you in everyday life. The answer to this may also be of interest to other listeners of the podcast. As always, about criticism, comments and Co. I’m happy of course. So feel free to contact us, also for the topic suggestions already mentioned. And of course I’m also very happy about a positive rating from the podcast provider of your choice! thank you.

From the article:
“… only from electricity sold leven, can’t imagine Guba for their own charging parks.”
That’s right … and when I then read that there should be “charging parks on our own property”, I’m seriously worried about an economically viable basis!
The picture above raises a number of questions.
I see AC chargers covered with PV with them next to a drinks vending machine, with people waiting in front who want to charge for 45 cents/kWh . There are carsharing vehicles under the carport.
Well, what are people waiting for when I have to wait a long time with the only available AC chargers even with a good charge (22kW, which only very few BEVs have). Instead of a vending machine to pass the time, even a shopping park would hardly sweeten the hours of waiting for me.
In a residential area, this system would be conceivable as a charging point. But then the snack machine could be dispensed with, and I didn’t want to charge for 45 cents/kWh, there are better wallbox solutions.
The BEV world will not work without a home wall box or fast charger, although I am focusing on the CCS standard, which has advantages even with low charging capacities, because many AC chargers in cars can just/maybe even 11kW, but CCS, no matter with which performance, works well/better.
