Matthias Schmidt, automobile analyst from Berlin, took a closer look at car sales over the last twelve months. He came to the conclusion that purely electric cars in the 18 markets considered have cracked the limit of ten percent of registrations.
According to Schmidt, it will have to be seen here whether the decline in part-time electricity users is due to the ongoing semiconductor crisis or whether it is a trend development. In other words, a permanent shift in sales from PHEV to purely electric cars. Quite conceivable, as one could see that in October new registrations of e-cars rose by 43 percent compared to the same month last year, while the entire passenger car market shrank by 30 percent.
The 886.000 newly authorized electric cars, which were recorded in the first ten months of this year, already exceed the 728.000 new emission-free cars, which have come to the road throughout the last year (2020). The semiconductor crisis leads to the manufacturers concentrating on more profitable models with lower quantities and mostly higher emissions. What causes these emissions to be compensated by E-Cars / PHEV to achieve the CO2 limit values.
It is expected that the overall market is barely the pandemic level of last year, which was characterized by monthly production and delivery interruptions, the car overall market 2021 is expected to reach only one level of 11 million units compared to 10.8 million in the year 2020. EVs are expected to account for just over 10 percent of that total. The normal level for the region is over 14 million annual units.

Unfortunately, there are still far too many large combustion engine manufacturers who only make a much smaller contribution to this 10 percent quota.
Total sales could otherwise be much higher.
In addition, the large manufacturers would have to contribute much more to the development of the charging infrastructure, then their BEVs would also learn to run better.
Nine out of ten cars are still delivered with an internal combustion engine, some partially electric. Trust in the old technology still seems to be higher. One cannot say whether it is due to a lack of ability to deliver, since new purchases could have been postponed in order to get an e-car after all. Despite funding, the proportion has not increased. More space at the charging stations for those who already have an electric car. Anyway, an e-car only seems to be convenient for those who can charge at home and also with their own new PV system. In the case of old PV systems with high feed-in tariffs, it can be cheaper not to buy an electric car but to wait until the guaranteed feed-in tariff has expired.
A “wonderful” development. Nice to read that the adhesion for the Otto is decreasing. It’s just a pity that this impulse for this development did not come from German politics and the German car business and that it first needed a diesel cheat. Let’s see if the charging network operator or. the policy manages that electricity (like everything else) can be paid for with a Girocard. That seems to be more difficult in Germany than the flight to Mars.
