The new mini is still a long time coming. A long period of time to keep the brand in the game without real new products. After all, the car manufacturer focuses on his core business for more than 25 years in BMW ownership: cars. With Bernd KOrber at the head of the former small brand, a new realism has returned to Mini. So that the whole thing becomes a success and money can also be earned, Mini has brought the cooperation partner Great Wall Motors on board under the blue and white rotor leaf.
Mini is now also becoming a China brand
Unlike Smart, the top of which is now composed of Daimler and Geely officers, the name of the Mini / Great Wall cooperation community has the hat alone at Spotlight. "Great Wall acts as a development and production partner," emphasizes Mini CEO Bernd KOrber, "and there will continue to be production at the headquarters in Oxford."

In addition to manufacturing in the British Oxford, two models are to be manufactured in China and exported to the whole world from there. Mini – this is not only lifestyle, but also history. The Queen had been on the throne for seven years when two small cars were introduced in a double premiere in 1959: the Morris mini minor and the Austin Seven. As a separate brand, Mini only operates from 1969.

"We have given ourselves a lot of thoughts about the orientation of the brand and the product portfolio in the past nine months," continues KOrber, "at its core our mini Hatch and then there will be two crossover. The first will have the size of the first generation Countryman and there will be a second model that is based on models such as the BMW X1 during its dimensions."

The equipment structure should also be significantly streamlined. As recently introduced with the electrical mini, there are no longer maximum individualization with low volumes and moderate contribution margins, but individual packages and the popular special models in this way. Even if Mini becomes electrical, the sports models with the John Cooper-Works label remain on offer.

It is time to wait until the new Mini generation comes onto the market, because there will be no mini of this new era before the end of 2023. Until then, it should be directed to model maintenance measures and special model – not for the first time with the British. For many customers, Mini has already become an electric brand, because the electrical Mini Cooper SE, which drives with the drive package of the BMW i3, is more popular than ever. If the new mini generation comes, it will also be over with the production location in Born in Dutch. The new models are manufactured in Oxford and at the new Spotlight location in China. The electrical versions are said to come from China, from England the burners. "Mini is becoming electrically", says Bernd KOrber, "but until the end of the decade there will also be models with combustion engines because customers and regions require this.“But you sound alone about your customers, because with noble leather seats it should be over with the new models. This should cost some customers, especially with the particularly exclusively equipped versions, because not everyone should like to sit on textile or plastics.

The United States is falling behind, because here you want to become an exclusive division with lifestyle arms in large rooms primarily in large rooms. However, it is clear that corporate mother BMW has clear guidelines when it comes to quantities. And when China starts, the target size, which has already been secretly proclaimed, does not appear unrealistic. “Mini was always the answer to very special challenges for individual mobility. And the willingness to rethink status quo shapes the brand to this day, ”says Bernd KOrber, Head of the brand,“ In addition to electromobility, the development of new target groups and sales markets for the future of Mini will also be of crucial."
Mini convertible as an electric racer?
In the medium term, however, it will hardly stay with the three new mini models. An open version of the Hatch is set by the persistently high sales shares as well as at least one more model. As has also been planned for more than ten years, a van or small bus that brings urban mobility under the mini logo to a new level. "It is part of our responsibility towards the brand and the community to preserve the unique character of Mini," says Bernd KOrber, "therefore every new model of our brand will be unmistakable in the future.“A bit more support from the BMW mother’s mother would also be helpful. So far, no BMW CEO has shown itself during his term in or just next to a mini. Norbert Reithofer, Oliver Zipse or Harald Kruger presented themselves exclusively on BMW products in the past. But Bernd KOrber promises that this should also change.
