Ford invests 300 million. USD for E-commercial vehicle from Romania-vehicle

Ford has confirmed last week that 300 million US dollars are invested to build a new light commercial vehicle in the Craiova assembly plant in Romania in 2023. One year after the start, 2024 the purely electrical version of it will come to the market. This thus becomes the first fully electric Ford production vehicle built in Romania.

The plan to build this new light commercial vehicle in Romania reflects the persistently positive partnership with the local suppliers and the community as well as the success of the entire Ford Craiova team, as Stuart Rowley, President, Ford of Europe, knew. In February, Ford had said that its total commercial vehicle program will be completely electrically electrically or as plug-in hybrid to be emission-free by 202, with two-thirds of the Ford commercial vehicle sales by 2030 are expected to be fully electrical or as plug-in hybrid.

The automaker has only recently confirmed that the next generation of the Ford Transit Custom Series will include a fully electric model, in addition to plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid and conventionally powered variants. This runs in the Turkish plant from the band. “With the inclusion of a fully electric version in 2024, Craiova will be our third plant in Europe, which builds a fully electric vehicle,” Rowley continues. This will also be equipped in its combustion variant with progressive gasoline and diesel engines. These include, for example, state-of-the-art diesel engines from the Ford engine plant in Dagenham and Gears of Ford Halewood Transmissions Limited.

The overall investment of Ford in its Romanian production sites – including the recent investment announcement – have been to almost 2 billion US dollars since the acquisition of the work in Craiova in 2008. Craiova’s commitment to electrification goes back to October 2019 with the start of the Puma Mild hybrid production. “With this new planned investment in the future of Craiova, Ford hopes that the Romanian government ensures that important improvements are made to support a competitive production landscape in the local region, including urgently needed transport infrastructure improvements,” says Rowley conclusively.

Ford shared only a few weeks ago to invest until 2025 at least $ 22 billion (more than 18 billion euros) to invest in electromobility. In Europe, Ford wants to offer only electric cars on the car market from 2030. In Cologne, the manufacturer invests a billion dollar (800 million euros) in a new electric car plant to produce an e-car for the European mass market on the MEB platform of cooperation partner Volkswagen from 2023.

Hopefully 2024 does not come trump in between and Ford “pulls the tail a” incl. Factory.

Numerous announcements that can be those at Ford, but otherwise I do not see much “E” with the cars.
