In 2018, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, that the automaker is working on a new mini-EV that "fits an adult".

Like some of his tweets, this one also left a lot of room for interpretation.

Was he talking about a full-scale replica? A single-seat, four-wheeled car? Or was that his way of describing a roadworthy city car?

From a financial perspective, the latter would make the most sense, especially now that tiny EVs are becoming increasingly successful. This is especially true in China, where, for example, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV the Tesla Model 3 Stole the title of best-selling electric car earlier this year.

To get back to Musk's tweet, however, some context is needed. The aforementioned short message came a year after the Model 3 went into production and two years before another project was announced by Tesla sent, the $ 25,000 car to be developed by the Chinese subsidiary.

While development on this project is in full swing at Tesla's recently inaugurated R&D center in Shanghai, we haven't heard from the Mini-EV in a long time.

So in the absence of new information, let's take a look at a number of renders depicting the elusive Tesla Mini-EV. TheClunkerJunker's illustrations show a two-door, four-seater miniature car, whose design is reminiscent of that of Model Y is ajar.

It might not be the most attractive city car you've ever seen – it looks a bit too bulbous from the side, and the front end isn't that pretty – but hey, it has scissor doors! In the interior there are four individual seats, a minimalist dashboard with a huge vertical 13-inch touchscreen in the middle and a panoramic glass roof.

The author of these renderings says the cabin is made from "recyclable and sustainable materials like hemp fiber, discarded milk cartons and wine corks". This virtual Tesla Mini-EV promises ample space for four adults thanks to the extended wheelbase, the almost non-existent overhangs and the forward-facing instrument panel.
