Racing truck is to start in the Dakar Rally
The French commercial vehicle manufacturer Gaussin presents its H2 racing truck. The electrically powered racing truck with a fuel cell system is scheduled to take part in the Dakar Rally in January 2022.
The H2 Racing Truck is intended to demonstrate the efficiency and reliability of the fuel cell system developed by Gaussin.
The racing vehicle is said to be the most powerful hydrogen truck in the world. It is driven by two 300 kW electric motors. The system output should only be 380 kW, because the fuel cells do not generate any more output.
Technical data of the Gaussin H2 Racing Truck
- Drive: 2 electric motors with 300 kW each
- Electricity generation: fuel cells with 380 kW
- Backup batteries: 82 kWh
- Amount of hydrogen carried: 80 kg
- Powerful cooling system
- Top speed: 140 km / h
- Range: 250 km under racing conditions
- Refueling: in 20 minutes (at a special tank facility)
- Street legal

The experience with the H2 Racing Truck should also be used for the further development of the planned road version, which is to come onto the market in 2022. Four variants are planned: semitrailer tractor, autonomous truck, distribution vehicle and construction site vehicle. The trucks are designed by the Italian designer house Pininfarina.
The basis for all hydrogen trucks in the series is a skateboard platform that Gaussin presented last April (press release). At that time it was said that the platform was to be sold to truck manufacturers in the form of licenses. There was no mention of their own trucks.

The platform is based on a chassis from Magna and is scalable. It enables 18- to 44-ton trucks. The skateboard contains the hydrogen tanks, the fuel cell stacks, the electric motors and the wheel suspension. According to the manufacturer, the gas tanks are sufficient for 800 kilometers. They can be refilled in less than 20 minutes. The battery-electric version has a range of 400 kilometers. The battery can be changed in three minutes.
Gaussin is an engineering company that develops, manufactures and sells products and services in the field of transport and logistics. The vehicles are mainly used in the area of airports and harbors. Autonomous shuttles are also part of the company's expertise.
