Hybrid jeep: electrically to the daycare center, with gasoline in the forest, consumption: disaster!

Of course, the twin drive is controversial. Because in order to save fuel and with it CO2, the wrangler, like other models, would also have to regularly dock on the socket on the socket photo: jeep Driving report: Jeep Wrangler 4xe with plug-in hybrid-high-rise with socket

The electrification does not stop at anyone, even the Jeep Wrangler gets a plug-in hybrid drive. Surprisingly, he is not only good for the off road artist on the street. In real consumption, he shares the problem of many plug-in hybrids.

The hard guys must now be very strong. If even an off-road vehicle icon receives a plug-in hybrid drive train, for many off-road fans the sinking of the West is immminent. The inevitable has now occurred: the Jeep Wrangler rolls not only with one, but with two electric motors plus a two-liter four-cylinder over hill and stone. So you can virtually drive the kids in daycare with good eco-conscience-and then heat with petrol support through the forest. “This is the better wrangler. He can and also has everything that the version is equipped with a combustion engine, ”beams chief engineer Maria Grazia Lisbona beams.

Jeep with plug: Hybrid wranglers produces 380 hp

Before we put this statement in the Rubicon variant through their paces, we take a closer look. Half of the electrification of the Wrangler resembles the PHEV concept of the smaller brothers Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe. So a four-cylinder engine that coupled with a 46 kW/ 63 hp rotary current asynchronous electric motor, including a belt-driven starter generator, ensures that the battery does not run out of the juice.

If a classic combustion engineer has to deliver speeds before the force can be transferred to the respective wheel, make the electric engines without hesitation Photo: jeep Driving report: Jeep Wrangler 4xe with plug-in hybrid-high-rise with socket

However, the combustion engine has a significantly wider breast with an output of 200 kW / 272 hp than with the relatives. There is also a 107 kW / 145 hp electric machine that is integrated into the gearbox of the eight-speed automatic and guarantees the e-ally wheel drive. Together, this results in a system output of 280 kW / 380 hp and a maximum torque of 637 Newton meters.

Off-road course: One thing is very different

So that the Orthodox off-road car fans can sleep calmly, we have ventured to an off-road course with the Rubicon version. And only with the power of the two electric motors. The first look at the interior makes us a relaxed breath: everything you can expect from the Rubicon are also available at the PHEV. Roins, lock at the front and back and a decoupling of the stabilizer, which ensures a magnificent entanglement of the two axes. Finally, the part-time current should also master the eponymous extremely demanding Rubicon trail. One thing is different, however: Due to the immediately available torque, you have to handle the accelerator pedal even more sensitive in the electrical operation than is the case with the version with an combustion engine.

consumption? catastrophe!

Now the fully charged wrangler in the Sahara version is on the street. The display in the cockpit promises a purely electrical range of 40 kilometers, Jeep indicates that the energy of the 17.3 kilowatt hour battery is enough for 44 kilometers. The driving programs are adapted to the drive module: At Electric, the combustion engine has nothing to report, at hybrid the system selects the most efficient drive variant and at E-SAVE the loading status is kept and the battery is even loaded if possible. So the wrangler should need an average of 3.5 l/100 km. We came up with an average consumption of 10.5 l/100 km. Site also did not achieve any acceptable consumption during a practical test of the also hybridized Jeep Renegade. In other words: The jeep hybrid is a mogue pack.

Since the torque fully uses when the accelerator pedal is slightly touched, the Wrangler, which is so powered, can free itself even better than already from adverse situations Photo: Jeep Driving report: Jeep Wrangler 4xe with plug-in hybrid-high-rise with socket

The electrical support is still good for the Wrangler. As long as the batteries have juice, the 2 acts.276 kilograms of Kraxler, smooth and accelerated in 6.4 seconds from a standing start to 100 km/h and is up to 177 km/h fast. Only if you call up the strength quickly, the four -cylinder buzzes audibly. This phenomenon increases when the internal combustion engine is at work alone. Then the effort is greater and audibly larger.

If you take weight from the left foot, it can also be glide with the gentleman of the site along the highway. Especially since the Wrangler is not a proven curve artist anyway and instead plays the comfort card, which is also noticeable in a slight bipper in long waves. So that the jeep can also exist on the long distance, the technicians have given it with a whole series of assistance systems: including the dead-angle warner, the adaptive cruise control and the stability control ESP, which with brake interventions prevents a wheel from losing the ground contact.

Touchscreen as a command center

The infotainment is called Jeep Uconnect and has an 8.4 inch touchscreen as a command center. If you are looking for a navigation system with razor -sharp premium graphics, sit in the wrong car. A jeep has different qualities. Nevertheless, the virtual pilot reliably brought us to the goal. The operation of the infotainment does not present the driver with a big puzzle and the smartphone is integrated via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. So the jeep Wrangler has remained loyal to itself and its rustic nature with electrification. On the contrary, the e-vitamin kick is good for the terrain, but the fun has at least 69.500 euros for the Sahara and 71.000 euros for the Rubicon version not quite cheap. When the Germans can scramble electrically, is not yet known.

  1. Better than the old light diesel in CO2 emissions?
If you consider such a hybrid in a hybrid car life of 100.000 km (because then the battery … must be exchanged) maybe 10.000 km electrically drives, then the vehicle drags 90.000 km the additional weight of battery, electric motors around with it. This corresponds approximately to a constant ride with 5 people with luggage in a normal car. How much fuel does your vehicle need more on a vacation trip or constantly loaded in city traffic? If we now consider the electrical side of the vehicle, we can only be happy that it has only an electrical range of a few km, because the electric load island carries the petrol engine, gear, exhaust, 50 liters, light machine, coolant, cooler , Oil, etc. through the terrain! For me it is eco, it costs what it wants?!

The consumption is much better than a comparable PS model "without hybrid". We talk from around 15 l to 100 km. Quasi 5 liters less despite the battery. And I personally could even swing work and back every day without fuel consumption. Everything chic

It’s good that the daycare trip was not left out here. The jeep is typical US American, whistles on efficiency and is therefore without a chance for the future. The thing reminds me of my Maerklin railway kit.

The transport companies in my city had hybrid buses in trial operation. According to reliable information, they have approx. a third more consumed than pure diesel buses. Now the expensive buses are unused in the parking space because there are no buyers for the expensive devices. You will probably be expensive at some point. Thanks "Green", Even more hazardous waste.

The Landrover Defender also needs 10.4 liters of diesel. It also has only about 250 hp. In this respect, I find the dismay with 100 hp more very fine. Sales cars are not everyday vehicles, but ideal for forester, Bunmdeswehr, hunting, etc. Or simply for leisure, the fuel costs are not in the foreground.

I drive a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon because I love this car! As a burner, I would never have bought the hybrid drive! And economy is the last argument that would come to mind in this car! There are completely different alternatives

Nice for conscience when you drive 40 km purely electrically. As a combustion, however, the consumption then increases extremely. The manufacturer also promises a consumption of 1.3 l/100km at the Ford Kuga. With the 2.5 l gasoline engine, it is then in practice over 12 liters of consumption. I prefer my diesel with 5.6 liters/100 km. And it is more environmentally friendly.

Dear Mr. Reinhardt, if you philosophize so nicely, you should do it right too. It is clear that this tank is nonsense. This is just a mogger pack of Jeep, nothing else. If you implement the HEV or PHEV correctly as a manufacturer and the owners, then use this product correctly then a shoe becomes of it.

Like a truck and then only 10.5l? A Q5 45 TFSI Quattro S only comes to almost 10 liters with only 265PS. So there is no catastrophe in E-SAVE mode, and I only find the info here about the measured consumption in hybrid mode "no acceptable consumption". Every child knows that the 3.5 l is not real, but what is real in the hybrid modu? Facts, facts, facts, dear site. I would not buy such a suitcase for the price either, but whether you can get into German city centers with an Audi Q5 45 TSFI after the Bundestag election in good weather in good weather. You don’t have to worry about that in the jeep…
