The automaker Mercedes-Benz intensifies cooperation with coarse works in the field of plant engineering with regard to the production of future battery generations and thus wants to strengthen the battery production capacities and their own know-how. Local battery production is considered a central success factor for the electroplace six of Mercedes-Benz, as the manufacturer announces. Nine battery factories on three continents should in future form the global battery production network of Mercedes-Benz and underpin the ambition of the company, to become fully electric before the end of the decade – wherever the market conditions allow it.
With regard to industrial production of future battery generations, the brand with the star intensifies cooperation with the long-term partner Grob-Werke GmbH & Co. KG, a German world leader for innovative battery production and automation systems.
“The Global Mercedes-Benz Battery Production Association is a Mercedes-EQ Mercedes-EQ Model Offensive and Relevant factor for our strategic step from” Electric First “to” Electric Only “. Through our partnership with coarse works, we want to raise further potential in the field of plant engineering with regard to efficiency, digitization and sustainability and thus further strengthen our battery production capacity.”- JOrg Burzer, Member of the Executive Board Production and Supply Chain Mercedes-Benz AG
The focus of cooperation is Daimler according to the joint development and construction of highly efficient battery production facilities for the global battery production network and close both the installation of battery modules and battery packs with one. Mercedes-Benz wants to strengthen its battery production capacity and its know-how in the field of innovative plant engineering.
Already today are used in the battery factories of Mercedes-Benz production systems of coarse works. In the future, the partners in the sense “Design for Manufacturing” want to jointly design development and construction of highly specialized production plants. The cooperation aims at the plant technology of future generations of Mercedes-Benz battery systems, which are to be used from 2025 in Mercedes-EQ vehicles.
“Mercedes-Benz and the coarse works have been working successfully for many years. With this cooperation, we also want to be a strong partner for Mercedes-Benz with innovative system concepts for battery modules & packs in the future.”- English Wankmiller, Chairman of the Management Board of Grob-Werke GmbH & Co. Kg.
The batteries for the Mercedes-EQ ElectroAutos will provide a global battery production network with nine factories on seven sites on three continents in the future in the future. Today Mercedes-Benz already manufactures battery systems at the locations Kamenz (Saxony), Hedelfingen (Stuttgart) and Bangkok (Thailand), Beijing (China) and Jawor (Poland). In Bruhl (Stuttgart) and Tuscaloosa (USA), the colleagues are already preparing for the start of production 2022. In addition, a battery factory will be built in the future in the Sindelfingen plant near Stuttgart.
