Mercedes EQA: Stuttgart’s entry-level stream

The Mercedes EQA is the second attempt by an electric crossover from the Swabian manufacturer. On the first trip, the compact electric SUV convinces with effective noise insulation and a significant spread of the driving modes.

Even if the Mercedes managers don’t admit it: the Mercedes EQA is important for the Swabian manufacturer. why? Well, it’s about regaining street crafty in the pure electromobiles. The Mercedes EQC is more fast shot than salvation. The little brother should make up for this notch again. The Mercedes EQA can also be seen the relationship to the combustion engine-related GLA. Nevertheless, the compact e-crossover appears at first glance more mature and more from a single source than the EQC is.

Mercedes brings the electric gla

This impression solidifies in the interior. Typical Mercedes. Two large monitors, one of them as a touchscreen. So the infotainment system as you know it from the GLA. Sometimes the relationship to the version with an internal combustion engine can also be an advantage for a current. We can find our way right away and press the start button. Instead of growling an otto or diesel engine, nothing happens acoustically. Only the illuminating controls and control lights signal that the electricity is ready for use.

How to sit in the Mercedes EQA 250 with 140 kW / 190 hp. Already at the first kilometers there is the calm in the interior, which is impressive even for an electric automotive. Even when accelerating, hardly any dissonances are bothered by the Sounds of Silence. Speaking of accelerating. The EQA is sufficiently motorized, especially since the end of the propulsion is already reached at 160 km/h. The three driving modes eco, comfort and sport differ significantly.

Range according to Daimler: 420 kilometers

The dynamic driving program is of course the most fun, but the EQA in Eco acts significantly more reserved. Still spirited enough for the city and good for the range, which, according to Mercedes, is over 420 kilometers. A battery serves as the energy source, the memory of which exceeds the 60 kilowatt hour brand. So that the batteries are quickly full again, the Mercedes E-SUV can recharge your batteries with up to 100 kilowatts.

The EQA is comfortably coordinated. Nevertheless, you never feel like you are sitting in an overhanged litter. Even in narrow streets and curves of a German city, you don’t feel like a thick-ship outsider with the compact vehicle. The driving behavior is supplemented by the recuperation modes that are taken from the EQC. When the developers promised us the opportunity to only act with a pedal, they didn’t take our mouth too full. In the strongest level, energy recovery is so clear that the heads also nod. The advantage is that you can get along without a brake pedal.

The different settings are activated with the rockers behind the steering wheel. So nothing new either. The sail mode, with which the EQA glides through the landscape, also works just as well as delaying. The adjective can also be applied to all driving behavior. The Mercedes SUV is not a hyperactive sprinter, but a BEV with which you can complete the daily trips unexpectedly.

Basic model only with front -wheel drive

The fact that the entry-level variant of the E-SUV is only driven by the front axis only disturbs at forced traffic light starts or when it goes into the rough terrain. Nevertheless, it is clear that Mercedes will add even greater variants of the EQA with all -wheel drive and larger batteries. The price for the Mercedes EQA will be significantly beyond the 40.Level off 000 euros. The premium surcharge is already included. Even if the interior is significantly more valuable than that of a VW ID.3S is, the EQA offers enough space, but not the feeling of space of the smaller VWS. One of the disadvantages of GLA relatives.

  1. So with
I could imagine the car to drive electrically! Combined platform or … from! Visually looks fantastic, and the acceleration and the range also fit…

  2. About what people get upset about here
Completely inexplicable, how to get upset about such a curd as if you had your own advantage of it. This e-thought deals with itself anyway, buy a diesel.

  3. Great car !
Very pleasing design, that can be Mercedes. A planned "Volume model" just. Do not think that interested parties think about bonnet comparisons or the minimal differences of the CEW values. The optics are pleasing and that counts for many. There is also a relevant point that also affects VW: Mercedes has a service network in Germany ! May totally like for the Teslafans "superfluous" be. Of the "Standard customer" However, prefers personal contact instead of mail traffic and OTA. The previous Mercedeskunde will not buy a Tesla if it deals with the battery technique.

Just take off your glasses and just read what is written. Where is the one of OTA at Mercedes here ???? Something like that can only one…..

  5. E-car in combustion gown
Every new model in the field of e-mobility has something good: it increases the competitive pressure. This pressure is forced to calculate the producers and to launch more low -consumption models onto the market. Unfortunately, Mercedes has wasted the chance here to produce a fluent -powered model. Maybe the next attempt will work. In any case, Mercedes should be at the forefront of the gaps – for which it says. Maybe there will soon be e-cars with different batteries. That would further advance the development of the battery, just as the various combustion engine technology in the past developed the engines

  6. Reading weakness Mr. Sochgen??
The customer decides whether the overall concept is correct, only then does he buy! Small example with the appropriate vehicle class? Porsche Taycan until July 2020 4500 approvals, Tesla S until August 2020 438 pieces. Newcomers Porsche sells almost ten times as much! In Norway, the Tesla 3 is immediately pushed off the tip of the VW ID3 and with polestar, another competitor Tesla on the neck. Tesla can still do so innovative, does nothing if customers decide differently. The market economy is so brutal, if the overall concept is not correct, very fixed market shares are lost.

  7. @Vogel Peter – Yes, let’s see yours "Facts" at
2020 sales figures: Taycan (new in the market) – 20.015 – Model S/X (both on the market for many years and Refresh has been in expectation for 12 months) still 94.454 pieces. I also like to quote from the quarterly report: "So we continue to increate Model Y Production … To meet Customer Demand." As always, you only have a look at the fraction of the topic (here: Germany VS Global)

  8. EQA data
So now there is more data about the EQA. 1.4c on average in the relevant charging area 10%-70%, not so bad but still far from Teslas 1.9c removed. The e-tron offers approx. 1.65c. You will see whether the almost 16 kWh/100km is realistic. Just below 70 kW capacity is also ok. Overall nothing special.

I certainly mentioned Daimler’s skills and praised one "beautiful shell" to build. With a technological change, as you currently live through in the automotive world, this is not enough. If the key data are not state-of-the-art, you will not be able to sell products in the long run. Especially not in the premium segment.

  10. That too is again…
an electric car in combustion gown with all its disadvantages (from the front wheel drive to body forms bad efficiency). Except for the processing quality (and of course service), there are no advantages to compete with Tesla. The elaborate insulation, which is praised in the report, is completely irrelevant in reality, since a Tesla that has not previously had such insulation offers the previous combustion driver an unknown acoustic driving pleasure. The difference is only noticeable that has already driven e-cars.

  11. @ Franz Stabler
Using a combustion platform for an e-car is only then and only in an inexpensive one as you can see such vehicles as necessary evil (which should only be produced temporarily as a supplement and in small quantities) or as an emergency solution to quickly to be able to offer something electrical at all. In both cases, the signs of the times were recognized too late.

  12. The deficit manifests itself in the "New"
Unfortunately, the specified technical data show "60 kWh" and "Up to 100kW" Daimler’s deficit clearly. Such an announcement would have been OK 5 years ago. In 2021 the deficit or. The lack of access to the current state of the art. It’s a shame that Geely would not play with the 10% share, otherwise a takeover of Daimler would actually be ideal. Tesla brings the innards, Daimler builds the beautiful shell.

You are simply not right there. It is (with the EQS -the first of Daimler on an e -platform) no matter what number the customers want because this platform runs via the identical lines in the shell/surface/lacquer/assembly….The systems automatically adapt to this platform. The customers alone decide which car they want. Nothing is held back there. Definitive!
