There is hardly a sales pitch for a new car that doesn’t come up without this question: Why should you switch to a car with an electric drive?

With the EQA, the second electric SUV from Mercedes, which is based on the conventionally powered GLA, the manufacturer from Stuttgart wants to turn this question around. The data sheet promises a range of 426 kilometers according to the WLTP measurement standard; This is remarkable, especially for a compact crossover, and for most customers it is also suitable for everyday use without restrictions, provided that you have regular access to a charging station. The everyday test with the new E-Mercedes shows above all that it is not just the range that matters – even if this remains a strength of the EQA in the test under real conditions: the test consumption would be 18.5 kWh/100 km almost 360 kilometers possible with one battery charge.

The fact that you can also use this in the pleasantly quiet and comfortable e-car is mainly due to the modern infotainment system, which was also noticed positively in the Mercedes models with combustion engines. Everything worth knowing is presented to the driver in perfect resolution on two large monitors in landscape format. It is operated via a small touchpad on the center console, via touchscreen or via a well-functioning voice control.

As befits a modern Stromer, the navigation system can automatically include charging stops in the route and also predicts how much power will still be in the battery at the destination. The dot on the «i» marks the charging card, which customers can subscribe to with their car. With this, almost all public charging stations can be easily activated, payment is made via an invoice via Mercedes. As a driver, you almost no longer have to worry about whether and how you can get electricity into the car. After just a few days, this leads to the question: why not?

The “EQA 250” tested is from 49,900 francs, which is another pro argument in view of what is on offer and the low maintenance costs.
