This September so far that Mercedes-Benz will introduce a fully electric variant of its G-Class. At the IAA Mobility in Munich, the EQG, so the name of the fully electrified G-Class is to celebrate its premiere. However, it will not be a new development, but about the reconstruction of the current G-Class on pure electric drive.
The concept vehicle of the EQG is likely to be offered in different performance variants as well as battery sizes. “But as standard, the four-wheel drive 4Matic can be expected by means of two E-motors, as well as appropriate terrain (locking, reduction). Officially confirmed, however, neither the idea, nor any performance data, “so the information from a current article on MBPassion.de. With the electrification of the 11.5-12.1 l super-consuming off-road vehicle, Mercedes will set a sign and probably moving one of the largest burners in their own house on the electric rail.
Mercedes had already been able to protect the corresponding brand names for the EQ series in 2017. In addition to the EQB, EQA also counted (compact steep gear model, A-Class), EQC (SUV, GLC), EQE (Sedan, E-Class) EQG (SUV, GLS) and EQS (Sedan, S-Class). Already in the context of the idea of the EQB, we have been discussed for details, which should be used by the G-Class: “The GLB combines robust outer design elements of the legendary G-Class with the upright attitude of the optics of GLS. The edged optics should create space inside accordingly.”
Again the details that seem throughout. The larger performance variant should offer over 500 hp and have a 108 kWh battery block, which fits well into the lead frame construction. With regard to the range, MBPassion goes.DE assumes that 500 km can be achieved. Market start for the series variant of the EQG is then probably to be expected 2022/2023.
The electrification of the icon G-Class only seems consistent for the company’s own plans. We remember, aim of Mercedes-Benz is to provide an unprecedented selection of premium electric vehicles, which should help to adapt the average fleet emissions of the company to the ever more stringent emissions rules of the EU.
