In mid-March 2021, the British / Chinese Stromer MG Zs eV found its way to me home. The electric SUV from the B segment, which has been available in Germany since the first quarter of 2021, is considered an electric mobility pioneer for the British car mechanism MG Motors, which are now under Chinese flag. About this I have previously lost a few words in this test and experience report. But did not want to leave him unmentioned, because he has given himself the pawl with the plug-in hybrid model MG EHS the pawl.

Because when the E-SUV was picked up with me, the plug-in hybrid from Mg Motors was delivered. This was then in the coming two weeks, as his electric predecessor, guest in my yard. For electric car news.Net I looked at the partial circulation of MG Motors. With this in everyday life was a few hundred kilometers on the way and could collect my impressions to hold them in retrospect for you.

Noteworthy is the fact that MG Motors has so far only brought electrified vehicles to the European continent, at least the brand is under new leadership. Consistently one is started with the MG ZS eV – a pure E-SUV – and places with the MG EHS PHEV with a partially electrified SUV.

As always applies; If, after reading the test and driving report of the MG EHS PHEV from your side, ask questions, just contact, and I try to answer it. Your personal experiences with the partial circulation of MG Motors you would like to send me so that we share them with the other readers. About plug-in hybrids In general, you can inform yourself on this page.

MG EHS PHEV – spacious partial circulation

The MG EHS plug-in hybrid is the partially electrical successor of the MG ZS eV, which has already been introduced on the market. The PHEV points to the vehicle with its “E” in the name of the “electrical influence”. The part-time current of MG Motors is therefore as a spacious SUV, which is the own statement according to the forward-looking plug-in hybrid technology, which connects low consumption and emission values with optimal driving pleasure. This was to prove this.

How to understand MG Wool with the EHS plug-in hybrids offer the entry into the “electric lifestyle”. Packed in a SUV of functional, safe and affordable from. The list price of the partial flow starts at 34.990,00 Euro, incl. VAT. & Transfer costs. Bring the environmental bonus / purchase bonus for E cars in withdrawal, 27 are 27.812,50 Euro on the bill. But later, under the point “Prices and promotion by environmental bonus”, more.

52 kilometers of electric reach are possible with the plug-in hybrids possible. So much is betrayed. We could not achieve this. But honestly does not surprise because the WLTP cycle usually has hardly existence in everyday life. Are the influences through the driving style, the weather and the environment simply too variably. Nevertheless, we managed to come to 40 to 42 km. Quite alright. If the battery is empty then you should bring a little time. Because inviting it with only 3.7 kW in four and a half hours, until the 16.6-kWh lithium-ion battery is full again.

“Today’s car driver wants an electrified vehicle that enables sustainable driving without having to make much thought about the reach. For those for whom a fully electric car is not quite the right thing, we bring the MG EHS plug-in hybrid to the market: our second electrified SUV next to the fully electric MG ZS eV.”

Matt Lei, CEO of MG Motor Europe

The question that is of course open, provides this charging period and the realistic range of around 40 km those who want to collect the first touch with e-mobility. Or it scares you off? It depends on it, I mean. Because the overall impression of the part-time current seems to be consistent.

In direct comparison to its fully electric brother, the already mentioned MG ZS eV, the MG EHS PHEV is therefore in a larger segment. The MG EHS plug-in hybrid is 4.574 millimeters long, 1.876 mm wide and 1.664 millimeters high and thus more spacious than most of its competitors in the C-SUV segment. The wheelbase is 2.720 millimeters.

What is definitely confirming is the fact that the EHS plug-in hybrid from Mg both in the front area, as well as in the rear with much leg and shoulder freedom. Also in terms of charging volumes mg Mg Motors are not. 448 liters are available in the trunk, the rear seats are folded down even 1.375 liters in it. Another plus that speaks for the part-time current is the security aspect.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-review

This aspect was given absolute priority in the development of the MG EHS plug-in hybrid. This is reflected in the five-star evaluation, which received both the gasoline variant and MG ZS eV in the Euro NCAP security tests. The excellent security result is partly due to the extensive range of driver assistance systems (ADAs), which are summarized under the name MG Pilot. These include the adaptive cruise control, the monitoring function for the dead angle, the predictive collision warning, the automatic emergency braking, the tracking warning and a 360 degree camera.

Partially electrified in everyday life with the MG EHS plug-in hybrids

The MG EHS PHEV is powered by the combined power from a 1.5-liter turbotzine engine, which, for its part, is 119 kW / 162 hp power and 250 nm torque supplemented by an electric motor with 90 kW / 122 hp power and 230 nm torque. This results in the system performance of 190 kW / 258 hp and a lace torque of 370 nm. In the communications of the company, as well as in other testimonials to the vehicle, the speech is that the transition from burners is hardly noticeable. I can not sign so. At least this was not always the case during the test period. Partially you could feel the transition slightly rough.

The MG EH plug-in-hybrid takes over a ten-stage automatic in everyday life (6-speed automatic transmission in the gasoline engine & 4 gears of electronic drive unit), which selects the courses suitable for the driving situation, but does not show it in the speedometer. A manual intervention is not possible. It’s a pity, you could choose the PHEV so quite in one or the other situation a little more achievement. Because despite its considerable performance, he does not work dynamically while driving. At higher pace beyond the 100 km / h, noisy wind and drive noise. Even larger potholes should be avoided, they come in contrast to smaller unevenness in the road surface, unfiltered in the vehicle.

I would like to talk to the purely electrical reach in the next paragraph, but would like to lose a few words about dynamics and propulsion of the vehicle. This should accelerate in 6.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h. The maximum speed is reached at 190 km / h. Both are certainly possible, was not aligned. However, more exciting are the intermediate principles and there is no way to come from the spot to the MG EHS PHEV. 1.775 kg in the luxury variant, however, want to be moved.

Corresponding assistance systems such as the 360-degree camera is in everyday life possible to find a parking space with the SUV or even in supposedly difficult traffic situations to keep track of the overview. Would not be the case with the error messages. In April it was a little fresh in our area. What leads to the slices in the morning. After heating the vehicle, as well as after a “warm time” it started on the street. There I had to make friends regularly that inspiring warning messages on sensor failures, as well as the note that the main headlights did not work. More than once and mostly after which I was already a few kilometers on the way. Of course, should not be so.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-plug-in-hybrid

Range, consumption & charging options of the ZS eV of MG Motors

Up to 52 kilometers range (WLTP cycle) the MG EHS plug-in hybrid should be purely electrically. This was to prove this. However, before we devote ourselves to everyday reach or consumption, a few facts about our test car, clearly summarized.

        • 1.5 Turbo GDI petrol engine – 119 kW / 162 hp, 250 nm torque

        • Electric motor – 90 kW / 122 hp, 230 nm torque

        • System performance of 190 kW / 258 hp and a lace torque of 370 nm

        • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds

        • Top speed of 190 km / h

        • 37 liter tank

        • 16.6 kWh lithium ion battery

        • Fuel consumption to 100 km (combined) 1.9 liters

        • Energy consumption to 100 km (combined) 24.0 kWh

        • 43 g / km CO2 emissions, combined

From pure city trips, over overland- to motorway rides everything was included. Thus, I had the possibility to map a very good cross-section through the routes, which of the partial flow of MG Motors probably also master under “normal events”. The mentioned 52 km reached according to WLTP cycle I could not reach. In top were 42 km in it, as the battery then pulling the end.

A route of around 65 kilometers at “normal” driving by the city, about the highway and the highway, it was a consumption of the 4.7 liters on average on the display of the vehicle. For a nearly 1.8 tons of heavy danger alright. Nevertheless, it shows that you should always pay attention that the battery is full, otherwise it increases with empty battery of fuel consumption accordingly. If the battery will be empty, it is necessary to load it.

        LADED Duration Wallbox 3.7 kW

        4.5 hours

Wall can, 3-phase, alternating current, type 2
        From 0 to 100 percent

For this case, the MG EHS plug-in hybrid has a binding loader with a charging power of 3.7 kW. Thus, it can be charged via a standard network current connection of 230 V (AC) at home. Better still on a corresponding wallbox. Therefore, the SUV offers itself mainly for those who reach a battery charge a whole day, or at least on work can reload this. So also to benefit from the low fuel cuts.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-impressions

The plug-in hybrid SUV is also equipped with a regenerative brake system that stores the energy released during braking and to optimize the battery range or to further reduce fuel consumption. However, when everyday driving, this barely realizes this, as it does not seem very strong.

Exterior and interior of the MG EHS PHEV in view

First experiences, described impressions and integrated photos hopefully have an impression of the SUV of MG Motors. Now we dive a little more together and look at the exterior and interior of the E-car a little more accurate.

Exterior: Striking design, reduced to essential

In terms of design you have thought about the PHEV. So the EHS PHEV relies on the latest development of the striking star driver’s grill of MG, which perfectly framed the famous octagonal logo. The headlights in turn present themselves with “cat-like” LED daylight lights. Who likes player, it will be that when unlocking the vehicle nine individual LED units give a light effect to the best.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-impressions

At the rear, the exhaust pipes on both sides of the aluminum underrun protection underline a sporty appearance. The decorative LED taillights with integrated, dynamic flashing lights reinforce the high-tech look of the MG EHS plug-in hybrid.

        MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-Jet-Parallax Section__Layout Parallax Section__Image Background-Size

The general occurrence of the EHS PHEV can be described as restrained. In contrast to other vehicles, the MG partial circuits with precipitated design approaches retains and just want to be a vehicle which in total convince.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-impressions

This is reflected again in the manageable equipment and color selection. The model is available in two variants (luxury and comfort), four body colors (black, white, red and silver) and two interior colors (black and red) available.

Interior: Modern, minimalist and above all clearly scandinavian

The plug-in hybrids from MG Motors is available in one of two features packages: Comfort or Luxury. In both equipment variants, the SUV proceeds, among others, with air conditioning, infotainment system with Navi, DAB and connectivity technology, parking aid, Keyless-Entry and leather steering wheel. The luxury features also offers a panoramic sunroof, sports leather seats with heated seat heating and 360-degree camera for overview in road traffic.

For both models as standard, the driver assistance system MG Pilot with functions such as adaptive speed control, automatic emergency braking, tracking, speed and traffic assistant. Systems on which one can only rely until the sensors work properly. Unfortunately not always the case during my test period. In general, however, should work.

Otherwise, it can be hardstocked that the designer laid a lot of value on comfort and quality in the interior. This is evident in the processing, materials and high ergonomics. Mg speaks of a clever organized, innovative design, which makes the interior a pleasant place for drivers and passengers. Can be signed so well.

Highlight in our test vehicle was certainly the 1.19 square meter panoramic sunroof as well as the atmospheric interior lighting, which provides a selection of 64 colors for the right mood. As a rider in the rear area, one benefits from an adjustable backrest, double ventilation nozzles, two USB ports and a fold-out armrest with integrated storage space and beverage holders. Small things, which can make a difference quite for longer travel.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-plug-in-hybrid

Behind the leather-related steering wheel, the driver has a clear view of the digital 12.3-inch control panel. The striking 10.1-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard enables an intuitive operation of the infotainment system that includes navigation, digital DAB radio and seamless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Compared to the fully electric MG ZS eV, the infotainment system of the PHEV becomes more fluent and faster appealing to the operation. Also, the Navi view is better designed as I think.

A look at the technical data of the MG EHS PHEV

Before we look at the technical data of the EHS plug-in hybrids of MG Motors, it is said that they are based on the technical data of the MG website Stand 04/2021 and match with my test vehicle. Furthermore, you will find further technical details / data distributed over the entire test report.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid: Prices & Promotion by environmental bonus

If you have convinced the previous impressions of the part-time current of MG Motors, then it is probably at the time a look at the prices to throw. Also, whether the promotion of the environmental bonus for the PHEV of the British brand is an option I do not want to be ignored.

Since February 2020 there is more money when an electric car under a list price of 40.000 Euro is acquired. 6.000 Euro instead of 4.000 Euro will now be reimbursed by the purchase price. At plug-in hybrids in this price range, there will be 4 in the future.500 euros instead of 3.000 EURO. For electric cars with a list price over 40.000 Euro will be the subsidy for pure E cars in the future at 5.000 Euro lie, for plug-in hybrids at 4.000 EURO. So far, electric cars are only up to a net list price of 60.000 Euro promoted. This cover will be at 65 in the future. To take place 000 euros. Furthermore, with the latest economic package, a promotion of pure E cars amounting to a maximum of 9.000 Euro possible; If the net list price below 40.000 Euro is.

        MG EHS PHEV – Comfort

        34.990,00 Euro

12.3 Inch Virtual Cockpit, Navigation / Smartphone Connection (Apple Car Play and Android Car), 10.1 Inch Infotainment Touch Screen, Air conditioning with 2-zone air conditioning

        MG ZS eV – luxury

        37.490,00 Euro

In addition to Comfort line: Panoramic dash roof, sports leather seats, Aurora indoor light, 360 ° camera

Based on the luxury version you start at a list price of 37.490,00 Euro; With my test car no extra charge for another car color (+650,00 Euro) was added, as the partial circulator in Dover White. Also, the interior was not charged because the “Sardana Red” style was not selected (+1.000 Euro).

From the total amount based on the BAFA Environmental Bonus (State / Manufacturer) as well as the innovation premium (state) deducted. Finally, one ends up at a purchase price of 30.312,50 Euro, for the fully equipped variant of the EHS plug-in hybrids of MG.

Conclusion for testing the EHS plug-in hybrids from MG Motors

Two weeks with the partial flow of MG Motors have been avoided that one can make a lot correct with partially electrified vehicles. But not always must be automatic. Thus, it would be desirable at this PHEV that the loading ability receives an upgrade, so as ideally often benefit from filled battery. Even a finer vote between E-engine and burner would be advantageous; At least starting from my test vehicle.

MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid - Review and Impressions of the SUV-Background-Size Elementor-69620 Elementor element Elementor

Positive to be positive is certainly the convincing security concept of the partial circulation, which was appropriately appreciated by the Euro NCAP security tests. But not only that’s why you feel good in the SUV, otherwise the interior can convince the interior through its spacious, handsome appearance. It is less convincing with exterior: sensors that do not work, headlights that fail and other little things that should not be. But certainly can be improved.

Then it fits the price. Because the concentration on a few equipment variants, colors, etc … makes it easy for the PHEV to decide. Especially if you have just under 30.312.50 Euro – after deduction Environmental bonus and innovation premium – the fully equipped variant of the EHS plug-in hybrids in the courtyard. So there is still a few homework to do, then he may like to stop by again.

The MG EHS PHEV was provided free of charge for this review for this review, for the period of two weeks, from MG Motors. However, this has no influence on my written honest opinion written here.

1 thought on “MG EHS Plug-in-hybrid – Review and Impressions of the SUV”

        1. Good day
I was interested in this car and made a detailed test drive with my friend. The vehicle looks good, has a high-quality, in the Luxory version, close to complete equipment that you often do not even get with payment in other vehicles. A Tiguan is hardly under 50 with this equipment.000.- to have.
The engine power is although in order but from acceleration, factory information 6.9 sec. At 100 km, I did not seem credible. My friend has a wristwatch with stopwatch, so I made a test on the empty highway. I tried the 3 times and the test values confirmed my impression. All 3 experiments showed a sprint from 0 to 100 between 9.5 and 9.8 seconds in dry roads. So very well above the factory information. On the network you will find a test of a professional tester that came to a value of 9.6 seconds. Of course, the vehicle is not a racing car, but such a clear difference to the factory information must not be. You read that the factories can differ up to 10% but then the value would be under 8 seconds. Would be interesting if you buy this vehicle and determines the factory information very clearly not to be achieved if this defect if it can not be resolved, to give the vehicle back to the seller in extreme cases. As I said, you do not expect a sports car, but the factory information should be achieved, at least approximately,.
          Kind regards
