A representative survey on behalf of the TuV association showed that four out of ten Germans have changed their mobility behavior in favor of a climate-friendly locomotion in recent years. However, it made a big difference whether the respondents live in a city or in the country.
The market research institute Forsa examined on behalf of the TuV association in a representative survey with 1.004 participants aged 18 and over How personal mobility behavior has changed. 13 percent of all respondents stated that they deliberately forego their own car in order to make their locomotion sustainable and climate -friendly.
However, it made a big difference where the study participants live: 21 percent do without a private car in large cities, in smaller cities and municipalities it is only eight percent. When using or switching to the bike as a means of transport, the weighting looks similar: 54 percent in large cities, if possible, with the two -wheeler in contrast to 44 percent in small towns.
38 percent of people use the rail traffic for longer routes in large cities, in small towns and rural areas, 21 percent ride the train. A mixture of public transport, bicycle and sharing services use 18 percent of the residents in cities, outside it is eight percent. However, there was no difference to the place of residence in the answers regarding the proposals of improvement of public transport. 92 percent consider a significant expansion of the local transport network to be important or very important in order to move more people from the car to switch to public transport. A higher clock frequency of public transport consider 90 percent to be important or very important. 87 percent of the respondents believe that significantly discounted ticket prices would make local transport more attractive at half of the current price.

The majority of all study participants wanted a modern urban transport infrastructure. Four out of five respondents are available for a significant expansion of the bike paths and would be ready to do without their car in the event of a corresponding infrastructure. Even car -free zones for pedestrians and cyclists consider 55 percent to be important. 52 percent would also like to use car sharing vehicles outside the city.

Less cars?
Where did you get that from? The number of cars has had a significant time in the past two years … Where did you get that from? The number of cars has increased significantly in the past two years. Corona has a not insignificant part in it. Who now ride by bike, or at least have one, use it in nice weather, when it’s raining or cold, the car is driven. Everyone should be clear about this in our latitudes and not always in the world such untrue claims. The great bike paths, at the expense and the place of normal road traffic, are only on Sundays, nothing more.
Keep dreaming!
Again a jubilee report, which should make us tasty of the politically forced and ideologically justified waiver of the car. I recently heard an opposite report, namely that the Germans do not want to be dissuaded from the car and also have no desire to constantly trample on a bike to prevent any supposedly man -made climate stamp – and that makes me very, very hopeful.
