With the NIO ET5, the Chinese start-up is presenting its new electric mid-range sedan, which is likely to compete directly with the Tesla Model 3. According to NIO, this is the most compact car to date, combining performance with a sense of space and driving pleasure. From the outside, the Stromer presents itself clearly and powerfully, while inside it conveys a living room feeling.
The NIO ET5 managed to integrate the high-performance sensors for autonomous driving into the progressive yet clean lines of the NIO ET5 and were inspired by the flowing silhouette of the NIO ET7. Furthermore, one has also been inspired by the super sports car EP9. This is reflected in the fenders, the wider track and the sharp-edged shapes, which underline the sporty orientation of the e-car. The rear spoiler does the rest.

Otherwise, the ET5 is clearly clear in design, with flush-finished door handles as well as frameless windows that provide clear lines and improved aerodynamic efficiency. The ET5 will be available in nine exterior colors, with ‘First Light Kiss’ and ‘Sunbathe Yellow’ being exclusive to this model. The NIO color of the year 2022 is “Airspace Blue”.
In the interior, on the other hand, NIO relies on the feeling of a second living room, which has been inspired by trends in the furniture, fashion and shoe industries, resulting in an appealing sense of space with a warm touch. The glazed, large-area panoramic roof lets a lot of light into the interior, which is particularly impressive due to a number of recycled and more sustainable materials.
The latest technology “NIO Autonomous Driving” (NAD) is not directly visible, but is still available. With NIO Aquila Super Sensing and NIO Adam Super Computing, the ET5 will gradually enable a safe autonomous driving experience for different scenarios both in and out of town. The full range of functions of NAD will be introduced gradually after further development and validation and will be available to users in China via a monthly subscription as part of ADaaS (AD as a Service).

Let’s talk about the engine. Here the ET5 from NIO comes up with 360 kW (489 hp) of power and thanks to its proven dual motor architecture (150 kW induction asynchronous motor at the front and 210 kW permanent magnet motor at the rear with a peak torque of 700 N) accelerates from 0 in 4.3 seconds 100km/h. In addition, the ET5 has a drag coefficient of just 0.24 cw, which contributes to the range of 550 km with the 75 kWh standard battery. A range of more than 700 km is possible with the 100 kWh long-distance battery and more than 1.000km with the 150kWh ultra long range battery in it.
In China, prices for the ET5 start at around 45.800 euros as well. The Tesla Model 3 adversary will be delivered from September 2022.

China is coming !!!
If you don’t see the German vehicles as real competition?
time will tell 😉
German/European manufacturers are no competition, technologically just too far behind, they prefer to rely on huge intelligent surfaces and decorative seams..
A supplement to the article here.
9.800 euros (70.000 RMB) for the 75 kWh battery, that would be 130.67 euros per kWh as a surcharge in China on the retail price. With 8 years manufacturer guarantee (?) when buying a battery it would be 102.08 euros per month for this period in China, then free battery at your own risk.
Whether the model also gets the 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test? – just wait and see.
You have to double the prices in China to get European purchase prices.
Looking at these beautiful shapes, you can believe my prayers have been answered! What a dream car! If you compare it to the German road tanks that exude the charm of a tractor, it’s like night and day. Only the Tesla M3 can keep up here. I am happy!
So if this car is of even remotely acceptable quality and is being offered anywhere close to the price quoted, then the competition really needs to brace themselves.
As a matter of principle, I still resist vehicles from China, but with this one it’s difficult because there is currently nowhere near as beautiful and elegant an alternative. Neither inside nor outside. Not even the Model 3. There will certainly be a test drive, and then little angels and little devils will enter the fight 🙂
