With its Robotaxi Service One, Waymo is already driving in the US cities in Phoenix and San Francisco.
Now Waymo is planning a cooperation with the Chinese car manufacturer Geely – together, companies want to develop a completely autonomous robotaxi that doesn’t even have a steering wheel or pedals. The most important questions about autonomous driving will answer Site in the video.
The company, which belongs to the Google mother Alphabet, has already demonstrated that Waymo can drainless: In Phoenix and San Francisco, vehicles are currently on the road, collect the passengers and transport them to the desired location and even without a safety driver on board.
For this purpose, Waymo is currently using the electric Jaguar I-Pace and the hybrid Fiat Chrysler Pacifica, i.e. non-autonomous vehicles that are equipped with Waymos Autopilot software Waymo Driver. Now the company wants to go one step further – Waymo writes in the company blog: "We are pleased to announce our latest cooperation with Geely, one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers. Waymo will integrate our Waymo Driver into a version of the new, fully electric vehicle Zeekl, which was developed in Sweden, especially for autonomous ride hailing."

Waymo No pedals and no steering wheel: driverless taxis are specifically
Zeekr is a brand that the car manufacturer Geely – which also includes Volvo and Polestar – founded in spring 2021.
Because the vehicle is to be designed from scratch for transortation-as-a-service (TAAS), it should give a pleasant journey in particular. Geely wants that with a flat floor and a design without B-pillars "For a simple entry and exit" as well as implement with generous head and legroom and fully adjustable seats. Especially interesting: "If a safety level that corresponds to the US vehicle standard at the same time, our Waymo One drivers will one day experience an interior without a steering wheel and pedals".
The Zeekr would thus be able to guarantee autonomous driving on level 5. The fifth stage is also the last, fully autonomous level of driving – in autonomous level 5 vehicles, the passengers no longer take driving tasks, safety drivers are no longer necessary, instead trips can also be made without occupants. The vehicle gets along with all traffic situations itself and no longer requires human interventions.
Waymo is still holding back with regard to a schedule. In its blog, the company promises the Zeekr with Waymo One "in the coming years".
