Now the RestoMod model shows its face
Opel is teasing an electric version of the Manta. The new Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD
should offer the best of both worlds: maximum emotions, but no emissions. So far there has only been one picture, but before the complete world premiere on 19.
May 2021, the manufacturer is now up and showing the front section.
It clearly shows: The Manta GSe ElektroMod is a reminiscence of the legendary Manta A from 1970 as Opel says. Apparently, the classic is being transformed into a so-called RestoMod with modern technologies and a new design.
The newcomer should receive a purely electric drive – presumably the one from the models on the CMP platform (Mokka-e, Corsa-e Etc.). The Manta A was 4.34 meters long, about 30 centimeters longer than the current Corsa. In addition, the car receives the instrument display from the Mokka-e.

Under the hood, which is typically black, the four-cylinder gasoline engine gives way to a powerful electric motor. The "e" in GSe now stands for electrification instead of injection, as it used to be. The classically beautiful, neon yellow body also has a radiant smile – thanks to the latest LED technology.
The original Manta with its geometric arrangement of headlights, radiator grille and flash provided the inspiration for the new Opel face, the Vizor that has meanwhile been implemented at Mokka and Crossland. Now the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD itself has this design as a new kind of pixel vizor.
The Opel designers had fun with the legendary Manta logo and designed it in the form of a QR code. Next, the unmistakable trademark of the Russelsheim-based manufacturer shines in the center, and two flashes of lightning flash from the circle right into the LED daytime running lights of the Vizor.
"The Manta GSe ElektroMOD is the work of passionate designers, 3D modelers, engineers, technicians, mechanics, product and brand experts. All Opel people through and through, who love cars and have fun developing new things. Beat with the Manta GSe We are building a bridge from the great Opel tradition to a sustainable future that is worth striving for. This mixture of zeitgeist from then and now is absolutely fascinating, "explains Pierre-Olivier Garcia, Opel Global Brand Design Manager, on behalf of the Manta GSe team.
The Manta GSe ElektroMOD is reminiscent of the Opel Manta A from 1970. At the same time, the car reflects the fascination of a growing fan base who transforms classics like the Manta into so-called RestoMods with modern technologies and a new design.
The purely battery-electric Manta GSe ElektroMOD with its fully digital cockpit is sporty like a real Opel GSe and proudly bears its ambitions in its name. MOD stands for change, for technical and stylistic modifications as well as a MODERN sustainable lifestyle.
The parents of the Manta GSe started their "Dream Car" project on their own initiative. After a lot of brainstorming, the plan was in place; and in the Opel Classic warehouse there was a matching Manta A just waiting to be kissed awake. From now on everyone grabbed the pure autopassion. So much enthusiasm immediately thrilled the Car Guys in the Opel management – and the idea of an extra-cool ElektroMOD became reality.
The new Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD is currently receiving its finishing touches in Russelsheim. On May 19, 2021, the neoclassic will be presented in all of its exciting details.
The lines of the Manta from 1970 are apparently to be retained. The name ElektroMod is also intended to be a reminder of the Opel Elektro GT, which set world records for e-vehicles 50 years ago.

A year ago, Opel boss Michael Lohscheller had an electric version of the Manta spoken. An electric manta could give the brand more emotionality, he said in an interview at the time. At that time, car media had to consider the design study Opel Concept GT from 2016 thought, but never went into series production:

The Manta GSe ElektroMod is intended to be a further step towards electrifying the brand. Each series should be electrified by 2024, which probably means: one electrified model per series. Plug-in hybrids and purely battery-electric drives are used here. So far, the electric car range has included the Corsa-e, the Mokka-e and the Zafira-e Life MPV, as well as commercial vehicles from the Combo-e to the Vivaro-e.
