Electromobility is struggling to recharge yourself emotionally. Maybe that works: Opel, where you only drive electrically from 2028, let your fans dream with an electrical manta A from the 70s. We drove him.
Opel shows that it still beats his heart in Russelsheim and lets the fans of the sports car dream of once – with an electrical manta a. Because if you drive a petrol or diesel, you will no longer be desired by Opel: Only electric vehicles are in the program at the latest in 2028. And Opel boss Lohscheller has now actually announced that there will be a new manta around 2025.
Opel’s manta legend car becomes electrical
This color is sharp – in black and yellow, so that you think you can see a BVB player’s company vehicle in front of you. The body worth seeing shows the known curves of the Volksportler from the 1970s. Once lived with the tuners, the chrome -plated bumpers are disappearing at the front and back – analog purism of digital modern times. The digital radiator grille with LED eyes and the digital instrument unit from the Mokka-E ensures high-tech charm. However, if the strongest version of the Opel Manta A was just on the road with 77 kW / 105 hp, the electrified one -off puts a strong shovel on top.

Electric motor instead of four -cylinder
An electric motor works with a tight 108 kW / 147 hp and 255 Nm torque under the black lacquered hood. In addition to the electric motor, which replaces the four-cylinder burner and drives traditionalists to defense, a battery pack is hidden in the catacombs of the Opel Manta A with a comparatively manageable capacity of 31 kWh. That is enough for at least 200 kilometers until it goes back to the socket. Once full, however, it takes four long hours.

Now first get into the meagered classics and make friends with the time jump. The excellent sports seats are known from the former Opel Corsa OPC and the three -spoke steering wheel is reminiscent of times when there was little more than the heated rear window and the lighting system electrically in a car. The digital instruments can be viewed chic – but do not fit in the electrified oldie. Here analog watches would spread a completely different charm and the digital display in the middle of the dashboard is also a matter of taste. Instead of the flicker picture, you would like radio in the look of the 1970s.

Hand circuit and clutch in the electric car?
In contrast to normal electric cars of modern times, the Opel Manta GSE not only offers a manual circuit, but also a clutch pedal. It is driven like a normal combustion engineer. Take in the first course, let the coupling come and off the post office – and brisk and silently at the same time. The fact that the body on the broken lane of the operating site is slightly creaks and the steering is stiff as in the 70s, you get used to it quickly. With its maximum torque of 255 Nm, the Russelsheim-Porsche cheerfully progresses in road traffic and almost silently. The chassis is tight, but not hard and the unusual wheel/tire combination of 195/40 R 17 front and 205/40 R 17 not only looks good, but also drives very well for such a single piece.

Towards Mainz on the way, a garbage driver stretches his thumbs up while driving past. At temperatures beyond the 30 degrees Celsius, he is as warm as inside the unemployed electro-manta. But he has to work and here it is fun to immerse yourself in the history that has received an unusual streamy. Turned back once and the gas or better electricity and the Hesse puts a fleet intermediate sprint there.
The Opel Manta has become rare
Again and again unbelieving looks on the side of the road, which probably have nothing to do with the electric drive, but rather with the bright yellow painting and take into account the fact that you don’t see an Opel Manta A in the Greater Russelsheim area in public road traffic. The fact that the unique piece is officially approved and thus has a normal electro license plate should hardly notice anyone.

The tour was short and that had nothing to do with the accuracy range of 200 kilometers. It was simply too hot and so the Opel Manta GSE comes back into the stately collection of Opel classics from the rocket car to the Rallye Ascona to the former luxury limousine of the Diplomat V8. Find a charging station quickly. Incidentally, the electrified manta does not have to remain an unfulfilled dream, because via Opel you can actually have your old manta a converted into an electric car with a cooperating provider and even have it not fell again if not. Hard to assume that this is one of the classic fans with a darling from the 1970s for conversion costs of Licere 30.000 euros will make – but dreams must be allowed.
