Mercedes will not present its new E-Class until next spring. But what the car with the star looks like from the front can already be seen at the Paris Motor Show at the beginning of October: on a concept car. The whole thing is called "Concept fascination" and separates from the previous one "Four-eyes face" of the brand.

Nthere will be no revolution, more likely an evolution. The E-Class is one of the most important series at Mercedes, which is why it is not being changed so radically. But when the new generation of the E-Class is presented in the coming year, the time has come for a new face. The current front with the four round headlights has lost all fascination in the opinion of many critics. At the beginning of October, Mercedes will be showing a preview of the new generation of the E-Class at the Paris Motor Show.

"Concept fascination" is the name of the exhibition vehicle, which, disguised as a coupe, anticipates the important front end of the new upper mid-range sedan. At the same time, Mercedes is introducing a new engine which, with a diesel consumption of 5.2 liters in the C-Class, makes a significant step towards noticeably more economical engines.

One of the tasks of the exhibition vehicles is to test the audience’s reactions. So is Mercedes with the "Concept fascination" proposed a two-door coupe that got by without the center B-pillar and had a specially shaped trunk. At the push of a button, a lifting table extends inside, the lower compartment of which houses a humidor. However, this air-conditioned cigar compartment is nothing more than a pretty gimmick, as is the cooling compartment for drinks and champagne flutes. Much more decisive is the front of the car, which instead of the previously round four eyes now has rhombic lights of different sizes. The new E-Class and the CLK coupe model derived from it will look similar at the front.

The second noticeable characteristic is the clearly visible fold on the bonnet that extends to the bumper. This measure emphasizes the arrow shape of the front even more than in the current E-Class.

The concept car was already based on the technical basis of the new E-Class, and the engine compartment housed precisely the four-cylinder economy engine that was nicknamed in the C 250 CDI "Blue Efficiency" will soon have its premiere. The key thing about the engine: Despite its low consumption, it develops 204 hp and provides a torque of 500 Newton meters. This enables the C 250 CDI to sprint to 100 km / h in a smooth seven seconds. The CO2 emissions are only 138 grams per kilometer.

This creates an alternative for Mercedes customers, because at this level of performance this engine can replace a larger-capacity and thirstier six-cylinder. The new engine offers "Efficiency at an unprecedented level", says Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche. This also means that it already complies with the EU5 emissions standard, which will not come into force for a year.
