Peugeot will become a purely electric brand in Europe in 2030-purely

DS Automobiles wants to become a pure electric brand as early as 2024, Alfa Romeo in 2027 and Opel in 2028. Peugeot boss Linda Jackson has now also commented on the phase out of combustion engines: From 2030 she will no longer offer fossil-fuel cars in Europe. However, this does not apply to the non-European markets, as Automotive News Europe (ANE) now reports.

If we understand Linda Jackson correctly, Peugeot will have converted its entire model range to the new STLA platforms by 2030. Then every new Peugeot model in Europe should be exclusively fully electric. Outside Europe, STLA cars with combustion engines could be offered, because according to the ANE article, the STLA platforms are designed for electric drives, but also allow combustion engines.

Literally, Jackson said to ANE:

"As we move on to the new platforms, STLA Small, Medium, Large, by 2030 in Europe all of our models will be electric. But I still have to make sure I maintain internal-combustion offerings for my international customers." Peugeot boss Linda Jackson)

Stellantis announced the STLA platforms (there are four in number with STLA Frame) in April and at Stellantis EV Day in July described in more detail. According to the announcement in April, the first vehicles are due to start at the end of 2023, but the last platform (STLA Small) will not be on the market until 2026.

Four years later, Peugeot apparently wants to have all cars switched to electric drive. At present, only two electric cars are being offered, the e-208 and the 2-2008. On the other hand there are still five pure combustion series: Peugeot 108, 308 (incl. 308 SW), 3008, 508 (incl. 508 SW) and 5008. According to ANE, the 308 could get an electric version in 2023.

A combustion engine off in 2030 would be five years before the end date 2035, which the EU Commission is aiming for. On the other hand, Stellantis believes that by 2030 more than 70 percent of sales in Europe will come from "low-emission vehicles", that is, electric and plug-in hybrid cars.
