Plug-in hybrids from VW meet sharper funding guidelines from 2022-funding

From 1. January 2022 the funding guidelines in Germany for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) are tightened. In order to be eligible, the part-time current from 2022 may either eject at most 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer or have a purely electrical minimum distance of 60 kilometers (according to WLTP) – so far only 40 kilometers were necessary.

“We make the adaptation of the current promotion for useful, because with the plug-in hybrid, customers can access a transitional technology that brings together the benefits of both systems,” says Klaus Zellmer, Executive Board for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen. “Our currently available plug-in hybrid models already meet the stricter specifications that apply from the beginning of 2022,” he adds. In addition to the pure purchase bonus, Zellmer also stimulates the involvement of the usage behavior in future funding scenarios. “It is important to use the advantages of the electric motor as well in short-distance operation. Additional incentives can still promote an environmentally conscious behavior here and the change to sustainable mobility are accelerated.”

The six Volkswagen models, which are currently being offered with the combination of E-machine and internal combustion engine, already meet the above-2022 specifications of the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA). Therefore, customers will continue to be entitled to a funding premium of up to 6750 euros when buying a Golf Ehybrid, Golf Gte, Tiguan Ehybrid, Arteon Ehybrid, Arteon Shooting Brake Ehybrid and Passat Gte Variant.

With the Golf Ehybrid, up to 65 kilometers of pure can be used electrically (according to WLTP). This is the prominent representative from the compact class in terms of reach at the top of the plug-in hybrid of Volkswagen. But the Gulf Gte, the Passat Gte Variant and the Tiguan Ehybrid fulfill the new specifications, so that these models also beyond the turn of the year also a funding premium of a total of 6.750 euros (net) can be used (4500 euros from the federal government, 2250 euros from the manufacturer). In addition, the Models Arteon Ehybrid and Arteon Shooting Brake Ehybrid also hold the tightened guidelines for BAFA promotion. Here is the subsidy at 5625 euros net (3750 euro federal subsidy and 1.875 Euro manufacturer’s share). The plug-in hybrid models Touareg Ehybrid and Touareg R are currently not offered for sale, but expected to be orderable from December 2021 with new homologation. All models mentioned also meet the requirements for a reduced company car taxation. Thus, only 0.5 percent of the gross resources prize must be taxed as a monetary advantage.

Strong customer demand for plug-in hybrids

The number of plug-in hybrids continues to rise: By the end of September, according to the motor trip Federal Office (KBA) in Germany 241.000 car with plug-in hybrid drive released and thus significantly more than throughout the year 2020 (200.500). From January to September 2021 Volkswagen has around 31 in this country.000 plug-in hybrid models delivered to customers – a plus of 257 percent compared to the previous year. Worldwenches have been around 300 people worldwide since the introduction of the first PHEV, the Golf Vii Gte in 2014, around 300.000 plug-in hybrid models delivered. In the corresponding model series currently attacks on average every fifth customer to a PHEV.

The plug-in hybrid technology is an important part of Volkswagen’s e-mobility offensive, according to its own statement, in addition to the fully electric drive, which is once again significantly accelerated in the context of the Accelerate Strategy. By 2030, the proportion of pure e-cars in sales in Europe should increase to more than 70 percent. In parallel, the combustion fleet will be further developed and efficient through plug-in hybrid technology. By 2050, the company wants to be completely climate neutral. At the “Way to Zero” Plant Volkswagen, by 2030, to reduce emissions per vehicle in Europe by 40 percent compared to the 2018 booth – these are on average over the entire lifecycle 17 tons of CO2 less per car.

Local emission-free and with great range

Although plug-in hybrid models are controversial due to their dubious climate benefit, still apply as an introduction to the change – from the internal combustion engine to the fully electric mobility: on short distances and in the urban room you can move silently and locally emission-free, on the long distance he offers enough reach and allows the use of the conventional tank infrastructure for fossil fuels. The battery is charged externally via the power grid via plug (plug-in), while driving above all via recuperation, because with each braking operation the recuperation is active and energy is fed back into the battery. In the “Hybrid” mode, the E-machine is supporting. This lowers consumption and extends the electrical reach.

  1. Instead of buying a plugin, it would be more meaningful to get a small or small car as a BEV second car and only to drive the routes with the old burner, which are above the exciting rich. After then finds that the burner has been moved twice a year, you then ask yourself the question of what you still need.

  2. Well, again one of this justification attempts of a manufacturer of Phev. Although I do not see exactly today a so-called. Transition technology should be good? After these vehicle types have been on the market for decades of Toyota. How long should you wait until you should finally change? There are already some BEV who would be enough for the vast majority more than those who are now traveling with two drives.
