Polestar, the Volvo from China

Polestar was once the tuning division of Volvo and was enclosed by the Volvo mother group Geely to the own brand. Their first work was the Polestar 1, a PS strong plug-in hybrid (see video test). Incidentally, the energy consumption of the Polestar 2 is its biggest shortcoming, and this is already the case with the official average of 19.3 kWh per 100 km. In practice, the current consumption indicator in the test car with the large 20 inch rims mostly showed values between 20 and 30 kWh, which also explains the somewhat disappointing range. At 80 percent battery charge, the car showed 350 kilometers at the start of the trip, which after the motorway ride shrank with a cozy 130 to 150 km/h faster than expected. So far, Tesla has just been ahead here. The 470 kilometer range after WLTP cycle could be difficult to achieve in the Polestar; For a final judgment we are still waiting for a more detailed practical test.

Chassis and driving behavior

There are no complaints about driving behavior. Although the Polestar 2 is very heavy – 2123 kilograms it drags around with him even when empty – there is neither a noticeable rolling tendency in curves nor the sometimes used wooden driving behavior. The steering can be set in three stages. You don’t notice anything from a large spread to sports mode, but the car directs relatively directly. As standard, two charging cables are included in the Polestar 2. And so the car taps new energy:

Conclusion

It is not enough for the Tesla killer with the polestar if you create the electrical range as a benchmark. However, the current built in China should hurt the German premium competition, because it will be delivered from October, while the Germans according to Audi E-Tron and Co. It is only possible to add new models next year and BMW is completely blank with innovations (apart from IX3). Other plus points include the good space, the excellent mileage and the extensive equipment.
