Polestar has been launched at the end of 2017 as an independent electrified high-performance brand and is supported by Volvo Cars and Dessem Mother Group Geely Holding. Already when the brand is presented, it became known that there are already three vehicles in planning.
Polestar 2 – The Scandinavian opponent to Tesla Model 3
Insideevs talked to Greg Hembrough, the North American boss of Polestar to learn more about Polestar’s market launch strategy and how to change the electrical automotivity. Furthermore, this has given a first view of the Polestar 2, the details we have summarized below.
The Polestar 2 is used as fully electrified four-door FastBack for five passengers. From the size, the vehicle will be comparable to a purely electric range of 480 kilometers with a Tesla Model 3, Audi A4 or 3 Series BMW.
Not completely confirmed are the prices of the Polestar 2, Greg Hembrough gave but at least to understand “that the car will be competitive in this segment”. Due to previous reports is probably with a price between 40.000 and 65.000 dollars expected, around 50.000 units per year. You may be curious if Polestar is also surprised by a high demand at the second model.
The Polestar 2 will be revealed at the end of the first quarter of 2019. The vehicle itself should be offered with different drive strands and battery packs. Furthermore, the Polestar 2 should have very unique accents and attributes that you have not seen in the market. So the first pure electric car from Polestar will be the first car in the industry, which has developed an interface with Google Android technology. This means that Google Maps and Google Assistant represent the core functionality.
What you will see at the end of the first quarter, Hembrough did not yet understand. He described the design language of the Polestar 2 merely as a refreshing and surprising, but not polarizing. However, the Scandinavian lines are to be regarded by the E-car.
Customers buy / rent Polestar 2 in the Polestar Space
As a customer, you can in future interact in the Polestar Spaces with the modern, digital performance brand Polestar. These are now opened in large metropolitors – typically in the environment of other innovative brands.
The first Polestar Space will open in Norway in mid-2019 – one of the world’s leading markets for electric cars. In the center of the capital Oslo, for the first time, the innovative brand and sales concept of the electrified performance mark is realized for the first time. By mid-2020, a global network of around 60 spaces should be built up.
While Volvo dealer forms the backbone of experience, Polestar customers may have no interaction with the Volvo brand. You will never set a foot in a dealership. The maintenance and repair takes place via a concierge service. “With a simple push of a button on an app, you can pick up the car and bring to a Volvo facility where a Polestar technician will repair the vehicle,” explains Hembrough. “Then the vehicle will be sent back to you.”
