Porsche Porsche lifts the Cayman in 2016
The facelift for Porsche’s mid-engine sports car is extremely extensive: in addition to new optics and new engines, there is also a new name. Whereby: it is not that new.
The four -cylinder engine returns to Porsche. If the mid-engine sports cars Cayman and Boxster receive their comprehensive facelift in the second half of 2016, a new downsizing engine is also one of the innovations. The turbocharged four -cylinder boxer should have similar performance values as the currently used six -cylinder boxers with 2.7 to 3.4 liters displacement – Values between almost 221 kW/300 hp and around 250 kW/340 hps would be conceivable. The manufacturer does not yet provide precise data.
718 instead of Cayman and Boxster
In addition to optical modifications through which the Coupe Cayman and the technically largely identical convertible Boxster move closer together, a new name should also underline the commonality of the models. Both model names are then preceded by the number 718, which is supposed to remind you of the racing car of the same name from the late 1950s. In addition, the hierarchy in the series is reorganized: If the cheaper -produced coupe has been more expensive than the more complex convertible, it will be the other way around in the future. Apparently the unusual price strategy for Porsche had not worked, the actually cheaper model with reference to exclusivity and more consistent sportiness to sell more expensive.

A Porsche for 40.000 euros?
The manufacturer does not yet call prices. The Cayman is currently starting in Germany at 51.385 euros, the Boxster is available from 50.909 euros. Whether the hopes of many sports car fans are true that the four -cylinder versions that have been announced for a long time.Press 000 euros remains to be seen.Most recently there was a Porsche with a four-cylinder engine in the early 1990s. In the 968, however, the combustion chambers were conventionally switched into series. The last four-cylinder boxer engine had 914 on board in the 1970s of the "Volksporsche"; The engine came from the VW shelf at the time. The recourse to the four -cylinder is above all a reaction to the strictly becoming consumption requirements, especially in Europe and the USA. The new, displacement -small engines are likely to be significantly more economical than the current six -cylinder, which swallow 8.4 liters even in the most frugal version (195 grams of CO2/km).
