At the start of the IAA Mobility in Munich, Porsche has given its vision of electrical customer sports of the future. The concept study “Mission R” unites according to enterprises of state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable materials with the passion for racing. The two newly developed electric motors make up to 800 kW (1088 hp) in qualifying mode. The battery capacity of around 80 kWh and innovative recuperation enabled sprint races without any power losses, it means.
“Porsche is the brand for people who fulfill their dreams,” says Porsche boss Oliver Flower. That also applies to motorsport. In addition to the commitment in the Formula E-WM, the company is now the next big step in electromobility. “The Mission R embodies everything that Porsche is strong: performance, design and sustainability.”The car is slightly shorter than the current 718 Cayman at 4.32 meters – with 1.99 meters but noticeably wider and at 1.19 meters altitude too flat.

Customer motorsport enjoys a high priority for decades at Porsche for decades. Since the start of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany 31 years ago, the sports car manufacturer has produced and delivered more than 4400 such CUP vehicles from Weissach. Worldwide, 30 brand cups take place on the basis of these race cars. Only at this year’s motorsport season 2021 came the most recent version of the 911 GT3 Cup on the market. It is based on the model generation 992.
The all-wheeller accelerates after factory information in less than 2.5 seconds from zero to Tempo 100 and reaches a top speed of more than 300 kilometers. Thus, the same lap times would be possible as in the current Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Thanks to newly constructed electric motors and battery cells – all equipped with a novel oil direct cooling – the concept study in racing mode provides a constant power of 500 kW (680 hp).
On the front axle an electric machine works with up to 320 kW (435 hp), at the rear it is even a maximum of 480 kW (653 hp). Thanks to 900 volt technology and Porsche Turbo Charging, the battery is sufficient for a good 15-minute racing break to get from five to 80 percent. The shop can be done with up to 340 kW.

In addition to the drive, the body of the concept study also sets CO2 reduction and sustainability: It consists to large parts of natural fiber-reinforced plastic (NFK). The basis provides flat fibers from agriculture. In the interior of the mission R, the material also comes widely used – for example for the door interior shells, the rear shot wall and the seat.
An ergonomically placed display between the steering beams shows relevant data during racing operation. About a touch display on the right of the seat can be obtained, among other things, biometric data of the driver. Numerous other cameras in the interior provide signals for livestream transmission. Porsche brings real and virtual racing so close together like never before. The driver’s cell constructed as a monocoque is also suitable in exactly the same version as an ESPORT simulator.

When will Porsche remember that such missiles have been liking like out of time? Young people have long since other status symbols. Potency extenders as advertised here are now more embarrassing. What we need are fewer vehicles in the cities, networked traffic concepts and finally a general speed limitation!
