The high mass for caravan and mobile home enthusiasts will be celebrated in Dusseldorf from August 30th. The caravan salon opens and offers not only new vehicles, but also the finest TV technology.

KWhen the vacation is over, new motorhomes are shown again. At the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf (August 30 to September 7, 2014), Citroën will again be presenting its own camping vehicle.

The Jumpy minibus, which was retrofitted together with Westfalia, is equipped with a pop-up roof and offers four beds. Also on board: a kitchenette with a two-surface gas stove. A four-seater seating group can also be formed by rotating front seats.

For the drive of the Citroën Jumpy by Westfalia, there is a choice of two diesel engines with an output of 128 and 163 hp. The more powerful unit is also available with a six-speed automatic transmission – rather unusual in this vehicle class. Prices start at 46,990 euros. This makes the Citroën around 3000 euros cheaper than the almost identical model Peugeot Expert Tepee Patagonia Westfalia.

175,000 visitors expected

In addition, Citroën is represented with numerous compact motorhomes from various conversion manufacturers. Among other things, there are models from Possl, Globecar and Clever Mobile that use the recently introduced medium-sized Transporter Jumper as a basis.

175,000 visitors are expected at the Dusseldorf exhibition center, where 580 exhibitors will present more than 1900 vehicle models. On an area of 190,000 square meters, the spectrum ranges from mini-caravans to luxury motorhomes for more than one million euros.

Two groups of manufacturers in particular dominate the market. On the one hand Hymer, because the brands Hymer, Burstner, Carado, Detleffs / Sunlight, Laika, LMC / TEC and Niesmann are all under the umbrella of the Bad Waldsee-based company&Bischoff led. On the other hand, there is the Trigano group with 15 brands, including Eura Mobil and Karmann Mobil. But the other big names, Knaus-Tabbert, Hobby / Fendt, Rapido, Pilote and Adri, will of course also be showing their ideas of mobile leisure in Dusseldorf.

There are also offers from the vehicle manufacturers VW (California on T5), Ford Nugget (Transit Custom) and Mercedes with the well-known James Cook on a Sprinter basis or the new Marco Polo, which is celebrating its world premiere in Dusseldorf and is based on the Viano.

Alcove models on the retreat

The best-selling base vehicles for motorhomes are still the Fiat Ducato and the sister models of Peugeot (Boxer) and Citroën (Jumper). The majority of the motorhomes sold have their technical substructure either on the panel van model or on the chassis of the Italians.

With its different wheelbases, this chassis usually provides the basis for so-called semi-integrated motorhomes. They have largely replaced the alcove models with the extra berths above the driver’s cab.

Semi-integrated mobiles are more convenient because the driver’s compartment is connected to the living area. That’s why there is also a slight elevation on the driver’s cab – but not to set up a bedroom, but to ensure the driver and front passenger standing height.

Most providers install their superstructures with a large number of different floor plans behind the original driver’s cab in order to meet as many customer requirements as possible. And what is not in the manufacturer option lists is then incorporated individually by the dealers.

Fully automatic satellite systems

This is exactly the trade fair trend this year: totally individual. Long gone are the days of just a handful of floor plans. New composite materials support these developments.

Electric fold-down beds behind the driver / front passenger seats are now just as natural as fully equipped bathroom / toilet units, which are often housed separately from one another.

Kitchens including large fridges / freezers, extractor hoods and grills are almost as common. And scooters and bicycles are carried in voluminous rear garages.

Special route planning for mobile homes

The topic of multimedia is also very important this year. Fully automatic digital satellite systems, which align themselves to various satellites, should enable TV in home quality.

Naviceivers are practically all-rounders – compatibility with modern smartphones is just as important as specific route optimization for motorhomes. The sound systems for CD / DVD or MP3 are no longer inferior to the domestic standard. The wheat from the chaff separates with frequently used radio units. Here it is important to take into account the reception-related characteristics of the GRP roofs.

The fair offers caravanners and motorhome enthusiasts the perfect preparation for the autumn trip or the best weeks of the coming year.
