Anyone who takes long walks in their own city needs a bench from time to time to rest. With aching feet, one would sometimes prefer to sit on the bench. Corentin Janel and Guillaume Innocenti thought a little further: What if you could go home on the bench?

Based on this idea, the two design students developed a mobile bench called Talk or Drive. The slightly eccentric project (which is abbreviated as "TOD", which sounds less tempting in German) promptly received prize money equivalent to more than 14,500 euros, as Ford Europe now announced in a press release spread.

Janel and Innocenti won first prize in the Ford Fund Smart Mobility Challenge, which is organized by a charitable foundation run by automaker Ford (the Ford Fund) and the UK’s Royal College of Art. Students were called upon to develop sustainable solutions for urban mobility.

Static mode is a bench that can be extended to accommodate up to three people. Several benches can be placed close together, and a picnic table can be added with additional elements if necessary. In mobile mode, however, the bank is transformed into a two-seater electric scooter with a top speed of 20 km / h. The mobile bench can be found and booked via an app.

Janel and Innocenti now want to develop the study into a prototype:

“We wanted to create a community service that adapts to the urban life of its users. Winning the competition gives us a lot of confidence in our proposal and allows us to build a prototype so that our idea can actually become a reality Working on a true-to-scale prototype, we expect further knowledge, for example about the materials and the application process. "

Second place in the challenge went to Cardiac Patrol, a proposal to equip private vehicles with automated emergency defibrillators, and Communi-T, an interactive vehicle designed to help the homeless and needy.
